First Direct Internet Banking is a bit pants :(

Hello all,
Is it just me, or is FD internet banking a bit pants? I've just switched from HSBC, very satisfied in general - customer service etc.
Alas, my beloved "pending transactions" is gone, with HSBC you can see what is crediting or debiting your account up to a few days in advance (although normally just one day). I did know this before I switched though so can't complain.
However, what is a bit strange is that last night I paid about £700 to various cards via debit card in two transactions, these aren't showing yet (as they wouldn't with HSBC either yet) but - my account balance isn't even reflecting them. HSBC updated immediately for me.
Is this how most internet banking is?? I'd expect to see my balance updated in real time

You need to click the "Make a payment" button before your "Available Balance" is shown which includes pending transactions. All you get from the main account screen is your "Account Balance".0

Well, that's a bit strange..Thanks!0

First Direct have the most outdated internet banking of all the high street banks in my opinion. Even Metro bank are more up-to-date.
It's not so much that the website is lacking in features, more that it just feels old, bland, unresponsive etc.
HSBC have a great internet banking if it wasn't for the pin device requirement to login.
Out of all the banks, I think Barclays and Nationwide have the best internet banking.0 -
You've hit the nail on the head there, a high street bank. FD are not that, not that it matters much mine. For me the Coop/Smile must have the most antiquated online banking around, I think it is still straight out of the late 90's.
Nationwide have impressed me with their online banking, I've not used Barclays the service doesn't seem to match the online from what I hear. It's odd how much banks neglect online banking given that's where most interaction is shifting to.0 -

FD are introducing the device too, or I think you can download something for your smartphone alternatively0 -
They are introducing a device, but you can log on without it just with the restriction of not setting up new payees.
The internet banking doesn't bother me to be honest, but it definitely takes some getting used to (banks back in NZ are about 5 years ahead of the UK so it was a bit of shock even moving to HSBC and Halifax which are pretty good).0 -
Hi
Its all personal choice but I really like Barclays online banking. I like the look and feel of the website.
With Santander if I say spent £10 in M&S using my debit card, the £10 would right away be taken from my available balance. However it would take 2 or 3 working days before the transaction giving details of date and who I had paid would show on my account. With Barclays it shows the next day. Ok for some people this might not be a big deal but I like to know where I have spent every penny!
HSBC & First Direct and their secure key thing is a bit of a pain. (First Direct could do with putting a bit of colour on their site. Maybe just the HSBC logo in red)

So what exactly can you do online on NZ banks which you can't do here?0 -

My time working on banking systems in NZ predates internet banking, but even then you could do things at an ATM that you still can't do here, such as your card allowed you to access all your accounts at the card issuing bank, and transfer funds between accounts.0 -

Not sure who you bank with but I was able to do this with Santander years ago, maybe around 2006 or so when they were known as Abbey. Lately I've not used ATMs to manage money.0
