Cancelling o2 contract

I know this might be a long shot but is there a way to get out of your mobile contract. Myself and my wife have been paying over the odds for our mobiles. My contract ends around october and my wife's not long after. Any advice on how to cancel or at least lowering our monthly bill would be greatly appreciated. I already managed to get a £6 a month discount (big deal) because signal was so bad in my area.

  • If your signal is poor swap. There are plenty of cheaper options out their on PAYG or SIM Only.

    What is your usage like?

Do you mean paying the ETC, i.e. about a year worth of 'over the odds' monthly amounts?

Ah for some unknown reason I didn't read the first bit and just read the bit about cancelling. Ignore my original post.

You are liable for charges until the end of your minimum term so you can cancel but will be charged line rental from now until the end minus VAT.

I think this isn't the case for O2.

I know what you said is the case (O2 do charge) but i have always wondered how different companies have such different ways of dealing with VAT on cancellation. What is eligible for VAT and what isnt is a matter of law so either vodafone (and others) are being generous and paying the VAT for you (as if it is due it must be payed to HMRC) or O2 are basically committing VAT fraud (by charging VAT but not passing it to HMRC). Both seem unlikely to be honest.
