Groupon Overpricing

Really annoyed with myself as I usually double check price of anything I order on Groupon.
However - liked a handbag organiser I saw last night on QVC. Saw what looked like exactly the same item on Groupon deals today at £10 (usual price given as £19.99) cheaper than QVC so placed order.
Just for interest looked around the web for prices elsewhere and found exactly the same organiser on various sites selling under £5, but especially on Amazon, priced at £1.99 (free postage).
Too late to cancel order so will cost me return postage if I buy elsewhere and send it back.
Notice that Groupon have now sold over 1400 of these at this inflated price!!

The loo roll deals they do aren't cheap. I buy my loo roll from Farmfoods and works out at 22.2p per roll when I buy 2 packs of 9.
I worked it out once and it was 23.8p a roll. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yeah, I've seen some Argan Oil hair products on there (shampoo/conditioner/heat protector/hair mask etc) and realised that they're the same products (and size) that I'd just bought at Poundworld. We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Ive been for haircuts and Ive still got a good bargain, but on seeing the price list for a cut and colour in the salon, its been about 50 pounds less than theyve advertised the full price on on groupon. Ive had some incredible bargains through groupon but some companies definitely over price what the starting item is worth to make it look like you are getting a better discount.0

Wowcher do it too. We went on a canal trip with a meal and it would have been £2 cheaper to book direct. Went for a cream tea on daughters birthday to find they were the same price if you booked direct.
I have complained to them before about inflated prices which are misleading.
Some bargains yes but mainly if you ring the company they are either cheaper anyway or will do the same offer outside of Groupon/Wowcher.0 -
Groupon don't set the price, they simply introduce you to the merchant.
Are you sure you can't get a refund? We bought some ferry tickets on Groupon, phoned the ferry company and could not get a booking on any of the dates we wanted, emailed Groupon and the money was back in our account in a few days.
PS: Can you post the Amazon link please. I was looking at these and thinking of my daughter.0 -
Under SOG you are not liable for the return postage, although they will try to tell you you are.
Been posted many times but Groupon are not always cheap, always check E-Bay etc, or check direct with the hotel.0 -

Sorry, I'm no good at posting links, but if you go to Amazon and search 'handbag inserts' they all appear.. Mine arrived today - be warned they are cheap plastic but serve the purpose very well.0 -
If an item is worth £20 and the deal is you get it for £10 Groupon more often than not will take £5 of that £10, which means the retailer is effectively selling a £20 item for £5, their costs often will be higher than what they are selling it for hence why some offers will be inflated.Don't trust a forum for advice. Agree with above - Groupon usually insist on a 50% discount, and then take in the region of 30-50% of whats left.
If you are after a deal, go to the seller direct and ask them to match/beat the Groupn price. Generally speaking both of you are better off - not that sellers are supposed to do that, but then Groupon can't exactly check.0
