    Hello

You are bound to be anxious I know I was but was not as bad as I thought it would be. Make sure you have your paperwork in front of you and has been mentioned here before a cuppa to hand, take a deep breath and answer the questions the OR will ask.

The OR will be writing answers down so it will go quite at times (time for that sip of coffee and another deep breath). The OR may go through your SOA with you and ask questions. Dont forget you can ask questions as well.

Just keep calm, the worst is over and once call ends you can relax and start to look forward to a fresh start.

I wish you well, try not to worry you will be okay.
  • Hello,

If its any thing like mine blink and you will miss it.
I was sat in a friend car with paperwork on my lap, when my phone rang
Sorry to call early is it ok to speak, yes i said, few questions and 10/15 minutes later all done and dusted.
Seven months later early discharge notice, hope this helps you
  • Thanks guys trying not to worry to much but just feeling awful wish this whole process was over an done with I'm sure the interview will go well just scared they may involve friends an family in this process
  • Hello me and my wife had our joint interview on Thursday after filing for bankruptcy the previous Thursday, we too were both very nervous we had a call late Wednesday night from the OR to arrange the interview for the next day at 13:00, When she rang she was very nice and even sympathetic the whole thing lasted almost 3 hours, about 2 and a half hours for my bit and just half an hour for my wife.
We received a letter from them today to advise us we will not have to pay an IPA.
Relieved it's all over and looking forward to a fresh start.

    Good luck tomorrow.
  • thank you for your advice.... just want tomorrow over an done with

Hi - The OR's usually ring on the dot of the time appointed. I thought mine was a pretty simple case but I was on the phone for about an hour and a half - so - a few practical tips, not all are essential an I am a bit prone to over planning but:
    • Go to the loo
    • Eat something (in case it is a long call)
    • Lock the doors (I have a neighbour who is fond of calling 'yooo hooo' as she breezes through the back door!)
    • Shut any dogs in the garden or the kitchen - anywhere so they don't disturb you barking at the postman
    • As jayk says - have a drink to hand
    • Turn off/silence any phone you are not using for this call
    • Make sure the battery on your phone handset is fully charged
    • Box of tissues - I was a bit weepy but not everyone is :o
    • Note book and pen (easier to sit at the table to take notes etc)
    • Copy of your SOA and BR forms
    • I had copies of the bank statements the OR had (12mths worth) The OR only asked about 2 transactions but it was so much easier to answer the question with the statement in front of me
Try not to talk though the 'pauses' - the OR will just be writing/typing so resist the urge to 'chatter' (I failed a bit on that one for the first half hour)

My OR was polite, friendly and to the point. Just answer the questions as honestly and simply as you can. It really isn't that scary - some folk on here get 10-15 mins, others get a bit of a marathon.
The object of the exercise for the OR is to understand as clearly as they can how you arrived at being BR, whether you have any assets and to determine if you have sufficient 'surplus' to warrant an IPA. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask the OR to clarify or repeat a question.
Let us know how you get on :)
  • That is a great checklist from TheGardener ! Some general information on the interview here, as the more you read that says it will be fine the more likely you are to believe it :)http://debtcamel.co.uk/debt-options/bankruptcy3/

You say you hope they won't involve your family and friends. I don't think that is likely unless you have had financial dealings with them - just repaid a loan to your parents or sold your brother-in-law your car or something like that?

There are thousands of people in the process of going bankrupt in England. The OR isn't going to hold a deep detective investigation trying to look at everything you have said and check it is true. Unless you are actually trying to hide something, it will almost certainly go a lot more smoothly that you fear.

Good luck, I will be thinking of you tomorrow.
  • Hi. No doubt the actual process in court was a lot quicker and easier than you thought? This bit should be too.
It will depend partly on how well you filled the form out. If all the info the Or needed was on there it should be quite quick. If yours is a bit more complicated then it could take a bit longer.
I presume you are happy with your budget now? Are you able to justify why you spend what you spend? do you think it's reasonable? If so you should hopefully be fine.
Also the OR is not there to interrogate you or make you feel bad, they need to understand what has caused you to go BR. It may be a question of robbing Peter to Pay Paul or there may be other circumstances, Just answer the questions as best you can. Don't worry about being able to account for every single penny you have ever spent, if you can't remember you can't remember. If they need to they can always get hold of your bank statements if they have a particular query.
    Regards
    df
P.S please come back here later on and let us know it all went fine :)

Didn't touch our bank accounts, said she was happy for us to keep it and it would be the bank that might close it.
Spoke to RBS they said they would not close it as we don't owe them any money.
