Afternoon everyone
My husband has been receiving ESA since having a heart attack 14th August this year and had triple by pass 31st October, the DWP are visiting on Friday to see if he's fit for work. He's a self employed Taxi Driver and his sick note runs until 9th January 2014. He's due back to see the surgeon next Monday he's not allowed to drive until he tells the DVLA.
Can anyone tell us what to expect please.
Thank you
Kim

What does the letter actually say? I have never heard of DWP visiting claimants for this purpose. It is ATOS' role to declare fitness for work or otherwise.
What benefits is he claiming?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
The letter from Department for Work & Pensions.
Notification of Customer Compliance Visit an officer will be visiting your home Friday 13th December between 09.00 and 16.00
To discuss your claim. He's claiming ESA

They will be looking into the details of his claim, not his fitness for work.0 -
I've just seen your other post and that you work for 18 hours a week. If your husband is claiming IB ESA has he declared all your income?Sorry I've just thought of another question.
I'm receiving DLA high rate mobility and middle care, I was awarded in May for an indefinite period, I have Emphysema and have really struggled since having Pneumonia in June so have decided I need yo give up work which is 18 hours, I'm quite sad as I've been there 12 years.
Am I entitled to anything else when I stop I still pay for prescription, the only thing I have is Blue badge and bus pass.
Thank you

usually, self employed people havent made the necessary class of NI contributions to receive contribution based benefit.
if this is the case, and he is receiving income based ESA, then any money you earn ill be deducted from his benefit.
have the DWP been told that you are working?
how much ESA is he receiving?
you need to chck if it is income based or conts based0 -

Exactly what I was thinking nanny. She posted yesterday that he gets 72 ESA and her 105 DLA with no mention of her wages!I'm about to give up work madness I hear you say but I cannot physically do it anymore due to my own ill health, the only money we have is 72 ESA and my disability105.
Any advice would be great. Thank you

I've checked with my husband they have included my wages which is 118 a week, but I'm leaving work on 28th December.
Thanks for advice my name is Kim by the way0 -
i am assuming that your husband is still in the assessment phase ....
a lot depends on the type of ESA he is claiming.
if it is contributions based, then it will be ok, but if it is income based, then it appears that they havent deducted your income and he is incurrin an overpayment.
this may be why someone is bisiting.
you need to look at the letters that the DWP have sent to confirm which type of ESA he is receiving.
you dont see, to be grasping how potentially serious the situation is.
it doesnt matter that you are finishing work later this month.
the fact that you are/have ben working since your husband claimed yjay os the potential issue0 -
He's been receiving ESA since a couple of weeks after the heart attack in August, it's contribution based he's self employed taxi driver and if he hasn't paid enough contributions in 35 years in the job he might as well give up, they have taken my wages into account I ask him. I wasn't aware we had done anything wrong. I came on for advice because neither of us have ever claimed anything in our lives, unfortunately we've both become ill.
Why are you being so abrupt, and treating me like I'm a criminal.
Thanks for your time but I'll get advice somewhere else.
