I think OP you have to accept that they don't see your career with them and for whatever reasons you are ok doing the job you do but in their eyes not for better paid jobs.
Keep your chin up, keep your nose clean and keep job searching. Are you even getting interviews coz if you are not then there is most likely an issue with your cvDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
I don't mean to sound harsh op but count yourself lucky you are not on the dole like some of us.
I would love a income of (£14500) as that is a lot wow
I only get £126.33 a fortnight from Jobseekers so you are lucky to have a job, so stop moaning
It makes me so mad when these people are in work and take home loads of money and stating their can't afford foods, bills ete.
just because someone is better off than you doesn't mean they are moaning or happy, so according to you everyone who gets more than £126.33 every two weeks should be happy and no reason to moan, what a daft thing to say, lets not try and better ourselves lets all just aim for a couple of pence more that £126.33...oh and you much be the only person in this country that gets £126.33 as under 25 it's less than £100 and over 25 it's just over £140.0 -

48 hours x £6.31 x 52 weeks = £15749.76 per annum
As Joanne says, if you really are being paid under the minimum wage you need to point that out and ask for the increase to be backdated. The minimum wage legislation applies to all hours worked including 'unpaid' overtime.
As for not being able to afford things - have you asked for help budgeting on the debtfreewanabee board here? People there are very good at getting the most from your money! But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

You don't refuse to do ALL other stuff you prioritise it after your real duties, some things will take a bit longer than people are used to if you have been too accommodating.I have had times where i have refused all other work/requests and the atomosphere turns very sour very quickly.
Refusing to do stuff is not a good idea but slowly finding reason to be too busy, look for other work you can pick up.
Another trick is to know the pecking order of the others and say things like I can do that after I have finished what I am doing for ... someone who is higher up the pecking order that needs things doing that are part of your normal duties or extra.
Who covers you job and all these duties when you are on holiday/sick
on return that can be a good time to try to drop other stuff if your proper work needs catch up.
Who covers this other job you did not get when they are on holiday/sick?
are there any tasks they do that you can start doing(to help out) instead of the other menial stuff.
While you stay you might as well learn to play office politics thick skin is not enough.
You also need to get to the bottom of why they don't consider you for better jobs, that's one to thrash out with the manager.0 -
I don't mean to sound harsh guy but count yourself lucky you live in a country that has a safety net for the unemployed.
As for the OP get job hunting if its not for you and in the meantime pin the manger down and have a discussion as to why you haven't progressed and what you need to do in order to move up.
Let him also be thankful that he isn't me, who has worked for 32 years, is unemployed(for 18 months) and doesn't get a penny - I wonder where all my years of tax and NI went?:mad:0 -

I should be getting £140.00 but I am paying back budgeting loan so that is why I get £126.33.
Budgeting loan is not free you know.0 -

I guess it was that as I'm paying one back too but it doesn't mean you only get £126,33, that's like me saying I only get £98 every two weeks, as they take a budgeting loan off me and water rates.
You were comparing your income with a debt off it to the OP's income without any debts off, if you are going to compare two things they have to be equal, I bet the OP has debts too.0 -

I suggest that you read my post again, because if you do, then you will realise that I am also UNEMPLOYED. However, unlike you, I had worked worked for roughly 32 years, and I find myself in the situation, that my OH's wages (only around average wage), have to support the two of us - mortgage, council tax, all bills etc.
The difference is, that I receive NO benefits at all, so I think that you are very lucky in comparison.0 -
What skills are necessary to do the "front desk" job you were promised?
Which of those skills do you have? More to the point, which of those skills are ones that you don't have?
If the front desk job involves a need for good spelling and accurate typing, then could you brush up on those points?
Does the front desk job require the skill of smiling sweetly at customers and either genuinely being helpful OR "appearing" to be helpful (whichever it is the boss actually wants)? Is that something you can do?
NB: I say "appearing" to be helpful, rather than ACTUALLY making a genuine attempt to be helpful for a reason. There are some employers (my last one for instance) where staff were actively discouraged from being genuinely helpful and were just supposed to pretend to be so...whilst actually being pretty obstructive:( I certainly never managed to acquire the skill of "being obstructive...whilst appearing to be helpful". I kept trying to actually BE helpful...0
