Gumtree is full of scum ive been scammed for tickets on that site before.

With any site like Gumtree you need to know the rules and how it works. It's easy to be ripped off or scammed otherwise. Simple things like checking how transactions should be carried out can be the difference between getting the item you want and losing your money.

Yes, there are scammers on there but there are also plenty of genuine sellers/buyers on there too.
  • I only pay via paypal on Gumtree if I don't live locally so far so good. Sorry to hear you got scammed it's not nice :(

Always amazed that people who send money to complete strangers "on trust" are surprised when they get take for a ride.
    Be happy...;)

    Hi all,

I recently bought and paid for a graphics card on friday on gumtree via bank transfer. My main concern is that now I might have been scammed. Looking at the original advert here:

And if you type his phone number on the search box here:

It comes up with multiple listings of high valued items. Digging around, I also found myself this article:

Although I'm not too sure if it is related or not but if you guys have a look a the map on gumtree, it suggests that this guy also stays at Stourbridge.

Any ideas if I am indeed scammed, if there is anyway I can get my money back?

did you have any luck with this fellow?

It would be a shame if you accidentaly set up a standing order for £50 per week to a charity from this account, wouldn't it...

Yes it would, the poor charity would see funds and make plans, then suddenly find the whole lot removed back to sender..causing the charity untold admin issues and more work for the book keeper

Firstly, you can NOT set up an outgoing Standing Order from a bank account without proving that you are the account owner.

Secondly, you could possibly set up a Direct Debit, but the account owner could always get it reversed.

Thirdly, as soolin said, the charity would suffer more inconvenience than the account holder.

OK then, set it up so the standing order/direct debit goes into a different, random, bank account.

It might not even work, but it'll cause the scammer all sorts of problems if lots of people did this.

Good god, what is wrong with the naysayers in this place? Do you LIKE being scammed or something?
