cover up old warm air vents

Hi

our house had a full wet heating system put in , back in 2010, there used to be a warm air system , which was removed , the only remnants is the flue which is wrapped etc in the loft , with the rest of the flue running through the centre of the house

The previous owners left the warm air vents dotted around the house though, i would like to cover these up , presumably by unscrewing them and fitting plasterboard over top

Anyone have any suggestions before i carry out this work ?

Thanks

p.s , like this , but thinner and not as wide

No issue with doing this. Just one word of warning - before you blank them off, check in the ducting to make sure there are no acid-blooded aliens crawling around, ready to drop on you when you're least expecting it :rotfl:

But no, if the rest of the system has been properly decommissioned then there will be no problem.

Have you considered a HRV system? It will be the norm within 10 years. You'll be poking at the plaster trying to remember where your old vents were.

I wouldnt want to open up where the flue is now , as im sure there is AIB board in the cavity running up the house , and the expense of a new system plus removing said asbestos , is beyond our means for the forseeable

I'd probably go the easy route and unscrew them, sellotape plastic to the back, screw them back onto the walls.

My new home also had redundant vents after I had a new gas ch with radiators installed & they have been blocked off by plasterboarding as you plan to do.

With some of the heating vents in my place, situated close to the skirting boards, it was found that the heating ducts were actually set in the floor & not the wall, so these gaps were filled with old carpet then cemented over.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I'd be tempted to shove a bit of loft insulation into each one before you cover it over - those vents apparently conduct noise and that might help deaden any transmission especially if you have or are planning to have kids in the house!

If i do that , it will just fall into the cavity dave? (the length between roof flue and where the old unit used to be, in the kitchen?
