Have a HM Leek and Potato Soup in the SC for tomorrow lunch - found the potatoes in the bottom of the larder and they were starting to sprout so used them quick! the Leeks were YS to 50p a pack for 4 large leeks in Iceland yesterday so used 6 and have saved 2 so we can have buttered leek with our next roast
Hi there, do you have a recipe? TIA
To be honest, with soup, I am a chop it up and throw it in person. In this one I have potatoes, Leeks, Pepper, water and one of those Knorr stock pots
Sorry I can't be much more help but it smells and tastes yummy !
There is a Jamie recipe here - http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetables-recipes/leek-and-potato-soup - not much different to the one I have thrown together

Starting to OS again and get life into some kind of order! :T0 -
Hope everyone had a good day, OH and I walked the dogs before the high winds and rain reappeared. It was great to get some fresh air. We made lunch from bits in the fridge and dinner was a shepherd pie made using the last pieces of the lamb joint, excess cooked carrots, Brussels sprouts and peas. It was yummy
Family came round and they had Christmas cake, the last of the Yule log and mince pies but had to go to the shop for extra milk. Didn't buy anything else even though I was tempted. In reality I cannot get another morsel in to the freezers. I don't think I will need to buy anything but milk, bread, fruit and veg for this month so should be able to make an additional payment off our debts, yippee :j
You all make me feel so positive, this is a great forum

After the local pet store put the price up on the 15kg bag of food I usually buy I went online (again) to see if I could find it cheaper anywhere. I did - £10 cheaper. I am just waiting to find out if there is a decent 'best before' date on it before I order (he's a small dog and needs some time to get through that lot!)
Have been making lots of soup to use up all the bits and bobs in the fridge. My bulk lentil supply is still going strong. I have quite a bit of chickpea and rice flour needing used so I will try and get some cheap potatoes tomorrow in order to cook up a hearty batch of potato scones. Super-fun-frugal :dance:0 -
Hoping to make today a no spend day. Back to work which helps. I'm taking soup for lunch from the freezer which I made from excess veg last week. Not doing anything tonight so I think a good rummage through my food cupboard is in order. As a recent empty nester, and single, I am still struggling with buying family sized amounts of food then remembering it's just me! Cooking for one is a bit of a challenge. Trying not to waste anything which means I've ended up with a lot of soup in the freezer, lol. Must get more creative with it and also use up some of my tins. Any tips for cooking for one greatly received.0

But if you tap in sweet jars in the ebay search bar, all sorts of ones come up, there are used ones for sale too.
I haven't done an indepth search yet, so I don't know if there are any cheaper new ones out there... so worth checking..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Morning all, I'm in the same position as you CDB, should only need milk, bread, fruit and veg and maybe a bag of pasta to get through the month. Have already planned next weeks food based on what we've got in the freezer!Grocery Challenge 2024

why don't you carry on cooking the way you are, and just freeze, or put the extra meals in the fridge, and re-heat.. ok that way it might mean you having the same meal on the trot a few times, BUT it will save money by bulk cookingWork to live= not live to work0 -

I would cook the same as before, but divide into 4 portions, eat one and freeze the rest that way you'll have easy meals on the days when you want something quick!Grocery Challenge 2024

I am sitting on my hands and not pushing the buy it now button.. as I wanted to phone local sweet shops first to see what they do with the empties, might be worth sitting down with a nice cuppa and having a think what shops are local to you, an in local areas, that might have them...and give them a ring.
I am hoping that they will give them away free
I know there are traditional sweet shop sellers in our local indoor markets, some corner shops near schools etc..Work to live= not live to work0
