Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 2013
  • id like join in if i may, my income has drastically reduced due to child reaching an age were tax credits and child benefits are no longer paid but she is still here... using everything she used before, so will need to tighten the belt ..a notch or two.
Bulk buying is an intereting concept.. will give it a whirl.
daft question alert :o.....If i make flapjacks, biscuits, buns etc.. can i freeze them?? ive tried to save money making my own .. and my DD scoffs the lot in one sitting, maybe if they were frozen they may last a little longer.
    Happy New Year everyone:beer:
  • Happy new year everyone!!!

We don't go out on NYE now, haven't for a long time, food wise hubby and a bowl of tomato soup with the remains of a shop bought loaf of bread, and I had an other helping of left over veg, pinged in the microwave, with a bit of butter..

Going to try and do a load of baking today, just about to try and do a loaf of bread again, this time not using a pack of 'bread mix' . Will also be trying to do a load of little mini bacon and onion quiches with a bit of grated cheese on top... normally these a scoffed as soon as they come out of the oven... BUT I am going to try and do a load to put in the fridge to last until the weekend, until I will have time to do some more...

We will have a pork chop dinner tonight using our own produce pork, with HM apple sauce ( cant stand shop bought stuff)

The only thing I can see us buying today is milk, BUT I really do want to buy some of those 3kg plastic sweet jars of the bay, to put my flour, pasta and rice etc in...

  • Happy new year to everyone!
We just went round the neighbours house last night with another couple as they have small children I made a beef curry and onion bhaji they cooked rice and bought samosas and the other couple bought a large bottle of processco (still hungover so not sure if this is spelt correctly!)

Going to fill in my calendar later today maybe do some knitting and hopefully some baking as I am back to work tomorrow
  • Morning All, my plans today are to chill out most of the day. I will have a walk later if the weather stays nice and I may go for a swim.

I am back to work on the 6th but have some prep to do for my classes and I may end up going into work on Friday if the school is open. I also want to get some baking done for snacks to have at work and I want to get some batch cooking done. I really need to do a freezer and cupboard inventory and plan accordingly.

I make or should I say bake just 1 day a week and freeze itall. Buns, pizza bases, garlic breads, flapjacks and fairy cakes. It makes my week easier and tastes just as nice :)

I'm having a use up and baking day today. First we will have bacon with lo bubble and squeek with a fried egg on top, one of my favourite meals :T

Happy new year and I wish you all a frugal 2014 :A

  • Good morning everyone

Happy New Year to us all. Lets hope it was better than the last one that is all I have to say.

Feeling slightly disorganised with lots of food to be prepared for cooking / freezing. Popped to local Adsaa yesterday and got only what I needed. £33 spent there so I am happy with that.

Cooking a gammon joint today and using up gifted Aldi vegetables from my sis in law. We grow our own potatoes so that saves me money too.

I have spent a great deal of money over Christmas all budgeted for and shopped in the sales for clothes that I needed. So now I stop spending.

I now need to close the purse and get on with the frugal way of life I feel happier living.

I think this is a great thread and we are all going to learn so much as well as receiving the much needed support along the way.

Good morning everyone Happy New Year
Went to friends last night we all brought a dish so quite frugal did buy a bottle of proscecco though naughty but nice.
Going to sort all my lists and what I need to be saving later today but main target will be food shopping I can waste so much in a supermarket get taken in by all offers I don't need ! Going to try and stop out completely and look into online and supporting local butchers, green grocers etc
Need to get our savings up as been over spending a lot lately out of our retirement savings.
That banana cake looks yummy !!!

Well the first text I received this morning was asking me to spend money! My lovely friend wants us girls to go for a meal this weekend, probably to a local curry place. I usually have a lamb dish with pilau rice and a coke, but I hardly eat much of the rice as I can't eat much in one go.

So to make it a tiny bit cheaper I might as well just go for the boiled rice and ask for tap water. I've realised lately how much better my skin has been since I've upped my water intake. So tap water is definitely the way forward for me :) cheap and healthy!

    Happy New Year everyone

I am fired up and on a money saving mission big time fuelled by the fact our combi boiler broke the other day. Our lovely gas man has managed to fix it but it needs a fan which he is going to fit after new year but am expecting a bill around £150 which was not expecting in January. We are going to have a lean and mean month

    Good luck for January
