OOoohhh - I wonder what they gain from doing that if it's organised? I'm vaguely aware that there are different metals inside catalytic converters - are they valuable maybe?

Hope you've all had a good Wednesday!

I've decided to get even more serious about saving money now, as I'd really like to buy my own home, but simply don't have enough money to afford what I want yet.

So I've kick started my little super money saving mission! I'm currently trying to do as many survey websites as I can and have just put a couple of things for sale on f*cebook. Thankfully most birthdays for the year have passed, so there won't be many costs there and I have a few presents stashed away for upcoming birthdays and Christmas too. Trying to reign in my spends a lot more from now on. Shall see how it goes, but it'll take a lot of hard work!
  • so I haven't been very frugal lately ... but then again I have because I have saved a small fortune over the last few weeks when buying stuff :) ..

so far in the last 2 weeks I have brought £230 and something pence worth of stuff for £33

and tomorrow im off to argos to get £130 worth of xmas presents for my two sons for £35 :)

    (does that count as frugal)

also been trying to pay as much off the debt as possible and starting to put money in a savings account for a emergency fund
    xmas £53.82/£500
    holiday £140/£600 emergency1 0/£1000
    £10 a day x 556 days = £5560 / £12.63 (after postage and fees)
    house fund £50000 + £10,000 fees + £10000 renovations
    emergency2 £5000

  • Dawn W sorry to hear about your car.

Second last day of term for me and I am officially shattered. Went to school Award ceremomy last night so it was a late night. It's pay day for me today so i need to set aside money to pay for my new bathroom which is getting put in next week. I will have a bath again for the first time in around 14 years. I can't wait to try it out.

Hi everyone, my challenge is to:

Reduce the amount of gas and electric I use per month.
Not overspend on food and silly things I don't really need.
Pay all my bills on time by the cheapest way possible.
Save every £2 coin I get.
Save all loose change up to 50p pieces into money box.
Grow my own fruit and vegetables
    Make do and mend!

I think that's enough to be getting on with, I love reading this thread it's so inspiring

  • Hi, got some carrot tops, want to use but not pesto, would like to use store cupboard ingredients, have potatoes, onions, courgettes, peas, sweetcorn and a pointy cabbage. Any suggestions gratefully received. Many thanks

Sorry to hear about the car Dawn W, I hate that people think its okay to just take things....grrrr!! Hope it's not too costly to get fixed.

Managed a no spend day today, kept myself busy with household stuff and defrosted a portion of homemade ragu, made from ys veggi sausages for tea. Got some bits done in the garden, potted up some herbs and sown some more spinach seeds...something, that wasn't me, has eaten the last lot :-/ Also payed some money into my ISA, taking me to my next milestone, yea!

I've been lurking as usual but thought I'd update...
Some of you might remember my *slight* panic in August last year when two days before Hubby's pay was due to go in everyone was sent home, the place went into administration and no-one got paid. He eventually got another job (same job, same place under a new company who bought his previous company when they were in admin) and was due this month to be paid Friday.

    He wasn't.

It simply didn't go in despite payslips being given out Weds and a late call from his line manager who also wasn't paid indicates the company may not be paying anyone full-stop. He was taken back on in November and there have been issues around payment but he's always got it despite sometimes it being a day late etc. Looks this time like he won't get it at all. And the second issue.... no-one there has a contract under the new management. Ho ho ho.

Waiting to see what Monday brings as at this point he doesn't know if he'll be paid then, if he'll be paid at all or if he even has a job.

Send cake / gin / the heavies so I can direct them to the people I'd like dufffing in....

Thanks - if not there will be hell on. We've managed to get him an interview for a job with very god prospects, much better wage etc on the 8th July however he needs a REACH forklift license. He passed it a while ago however the company that did the training won't release his actual licence despite it being paid for until his current employers prove they have PAT -tested / maintained their equipment (the forklift needed a repair when the training manager went there apparently).
If it's gone b@lls up with his current employers they aren't likely to help him out with that one sadly.

    Slightly frustrating.
