Thanks cw18 mine is a 1.2 polo, running fine really...erm silly question...how do you calculate mpg?! It does 400-450 miles per tank costing £55ish to fill up.

Today is a catch up clean day, first load of washing is on & hoping I can dry outside so fingers crossed we don't have a monsoon later like we had yesterday!

Thank you Sparrer & Kerry woman.

Just had a look in the garden, the peas I planted have started to grow...peas! Feeling very pleased with myself, quite new to growing my own, but can feel a new hobby obsession coming on...think I will put in a few carrot seeds later.

    Call it £55 a fill up at £1.35 a litre (average-ish cost)

    So that's 40.7 litres (£55 / £1.35), which I'm going to round UP to 41

Call it 410 miles per tank for easy calculations, so that's 10 miles per litre

I work in mpg, and 1 gallon is around 4.5 litres (actually 4.54609). So that's 45 mpg.

Thanks for number crunching cw18, thats really kind of you. I need to get a bit more savvy with my figures to help me make the most of my income/savings I feel! Car wise I think I will just keep going with the one I have, not too shoddy & relatively inexpensive to keep on the road. Think I have a classic want rather than need scenario here!

Hello, I've just added myself to the grocery challenge so would like to add myself to this group too please. All your tips for frugal living have been so helpful in the time I've been reading this forum, so thanks :) I'm on a very tight budget now so would like to tighten my belt even more!

Sorry to hear about your Mum Sparrer, hope she is feeling better now.

I haven't managed to post for a few days, not sure where the time goes  How ever did I find time to go to work :rotfl:

Had a bit of a nightmare last week. Some clown cut the catalytic converter (sp? an expensive bit of the exhaust system apparently) off OH's vehicle  Due to the shenanigans I had with my car when I claimed on the insurance recently (I was without it for more than 2 weeks for a minor bodywork repair)we decided not to claim this time, but just to bite the bullet and get it fixed ourselves. Done now, and not as expensive as we feared. Lets hope the barstewards don't come back and do it again  Apparently there has been a spate of it in this and surrounding towns. They do one in each road according to the police, to avoid being in one place for long. It is quite a quick job apparently. So, be aware if you have a vehicle that you leave parked outside at night. Not sure what you could actually do to guard against it though :( The police lady reckoned they picked ours because it is high up off the ground so easier to reach underneath.

On a happier note, we are now eating strawberries, raspberries, new potatoes, mangetout, broad beans, lettuce and cucumbers from the garden (not all at once I hasten to add) which is saving quite a bit :) The weather here has been beautiful.

We did a car boot on Sunday and got rid of loads of carp, and made just over £56, which wasn't bad considering nothing we sold had an asking price of more than £1, with lots of 50p and 20p bits (I did say it was carp :rotfl:). We are giving up one of our antique/ vintage units, so need to condense two into one. The junk that went to the car boot was damaged stuff, and the rubbishy bits out of auction lots etc, so it was good to get rid of most of what we took.

Right, I have done loads today, and think I am off to bed now!

Sorry to hear about your theft - it doesn't seem fair does it that people seem to get away with causing other people problems

Your post makes me realise how much I miss having a garden and growing all my own fruit and veg :( Oh well - we can't always have everything in life eh.

Hope everyone has a winsome Wednesday

My garden is tiny - barely more than a courtyard, but I like the challenge of growing as much food as possible in it. I even have 3 chickens :) I like flowers too - I have clematis, roses, lavender and sweet peas at the back, all in pots and / or mixed in with the veg, and lilies, lobelia, petunias, marigolds, geraniums and fuchsias in the tiny patch at the front.

The local police think it is a bit more organised than that, led by criminals from Bristol (I live in the West country, and this is our local city) who pay local chavs / junkies in the small towns to do the actual deed. Apparently there is money to be made by doing this rather than it simply being vandalism - and it requires more specialist gear than bored kids/ teenagers would have access to, or the knowledge to use :(
