I have loads of leftover turkey and gammon so this weekend I will be batch cooking turkey and mushroom pies, turkey curry, ham and lentil soup and ham, leek and potato stew. These can all be frozen for dinners through the month. I also have a turnip, any suggestions on what to do with it? I've never found a good recipe!

Well January is going to be tight. Spent 170 extra on Christmas - much of which was done due to lack of thought.
guess I am going to learn a lot from you guys.
hope everyone had a good couple of days

I desperately need to re do this challenge, through out the last few years I have become very lack and my debts have less crept up on me as pounced.
For me this year it is not just about gaining financial control, but as to start to live a simpler life and de-clutter in the process. To become more appreciative of the things I have in my life and be able to have actual down time on my days off. I yearn to be able to just sit back and do some cross stitching, or read a book and not worry about the time.19th March 2007 LBM£5,969.63 1st January 2018 £5960.18, 1st January 2019 £11,032.0018th August 2023 £12,435.00, Student Loan £22244.00 From 2009-12Challenges: To learn to stop spending..0 -
Thanks Frugalsod, is that for a lb loaf?
I am slowly de-cluttering, and I am in a right pickle.... I want to get back to cooking as much as I can from scratch, and not buying cakes and packs of biscwits from the supermarkets, which really does eat into your budget etc... I used to cook/bake a lot when the kids were small, but with working, got out of the habbit etc...I am cleaning out/de-cluttering my cupboards and my old kenwood mixer is leaking oil/grease from where you put the attachment blades in... it is old, my mother bought it in the early 80's .. I will get hubby to strip it down later to have a look, but I am thinking about buying something similar and ALOT cheaper. and I am trying to justify to myself the money I would spend on it... I am sure over time it will pay for itself in the amount of money I would save by not buying stuff in the supermarket and baking myself...

Well, OH successfully cleared the partially blocked chimney liner, so no replacement needed, AND we can have the woodburner alight again
Today's tasks for me:
Deal with turkey stock which needs reducing, then freezing when cool.
Make a turkey and whatever-else-there-is-lurking-around pie (or two)
Try out the walk to the railway station (new rail service for our town) which will avoid having to pay for car parking in neighbouring town, but require a 20 or so minute walk in the dark and rain at both ends of the working day
. Still, I am determined to do it, so a practice run (so as to speak) today if reasonably dry.
Necessary purchases today - a new washing line prop (ebay) and some spuds (from Lidls on my station walk). We know how to have a good time here :rotfl:0 -
Have you tried making a soup with them?
I'm looking up recipes, there is a turnip cake one that sounds good, it would taste delish with poached eggs, I could always boil and mix with potatoes and mash up to make rostis to freeze. It seems to be quite a versatile veg, I think it is the fear of then unknown that outs me off, i dont think I knowingly ate turnip until well in my 20s. LolI don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Morning all,
I made a curry last night to use up some turkey but realised I had no veg to bulk it out. A trip to the local C0-0p and I got a huge bag of brussels, broccoli n carrots for 45p. What I didn't use in curry, I froze. Also bought some YS bread. Wish I had a chest freezer as they had loads of reduced bread.
Served the curry with some YS plain naans jazzed up with some garlic and coriander, delicious!0 -
Hi All
Today i am going to do a freezer inventory and stick it to the front of my freezer. That way i'll be able to use it all up so nothing will be wasted!0 -

If hubby can see what is wrong, it'ss definately worth looking eBay for a spare part as there are LOADS of parts going for sale pretty cheap, as well as donor machines for spares.
At that age it might just be a perished rubber seal which should be cheap to replaceApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500
