My income is dropping by £8,000 odd in 2014, so its, back to the drawing board for every aspect of life.
I hope to use my sewing skills to teach others how to make do and Mend, and recycle clothes, duvets etc
i already do some of this as part of my job.
I follow Mortgage free in three, and she has amazing food ideas, and even sewing ones sometimes. The daily tweets, blog posts etc help focus me.

  • Have managed to get good budget down quite a bit, however, there are certain food items that I'm not willing to eat non-organic so that is keeping it a little higher than I would like, I guess that's compromise? Feeling determined for this challenge :) Dont have a huge amount of debt but due to my very small amount of disposable income and the only outgoing I can realistically cut down being the food budget I am aiming for a debt free day in 2015. Trying no have as many NSDs as possible and do a monthly shop, batch cook and freeze :) also growing veg this year.

  • I would love to join in again. I wasn't half as frugal as I could have been last year, especially in the last few months which completely went to pot. However, renewed energies are the order of the day and I really want to get spending down to a minimum. Can I join in please?? x x x

I'm sure Frugaldom will be along soon to welcome all new members, but in the meantime, welcome to everyone! :j :j

The whole point of this thread is to make the best of everything, and help each other when times are hard. Life is tough enough without struggling along with no support, so the more the merrier on here!

Just remember, the frugaldom challenge is not about buying lots of things, but making do with what you already have. Growing your own when appropriate and making things go further by being sensible.

I'm looking forward to reading about everyone's successes as we go through the year - here's to us

thanks Mama67, I asked over on the os board too,

Has anyone worked out how much an actual loaf costs to make??

I can buy an 800gm loaf from A$dafor £1 and from te$co for £1.30, BUT I seen them painting the bread with some sort of solution before baking, and it is making me think, even though there will be less additives than sliced bread, there might be more stuff in it than if I try and bake some myself... Hope that made sense

If you use only 80p for 1.5kilo flour it works out around 47p a loaf. You should get 3 loaves out of a bag of flour. Plus cooking, though that is not too much only pennies of electricity.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Mr Shortie and I turned left over double cream and 10p YS extra thick cream into 600g of butter (now frozen) and 500ml of buttermilk which we'll cook witb. So pleased with what we got from something we would have thrown away and a 10p reduction!

We're off to a friend's tomorrow and were asked to bring snacks. Which is great as both our folks left loads of snacks so we'll take a pile of those with us and will still have lots keft

Currently winding down with the kids and Mr Shortie to watch a film and munch on yet more snack leftovers.

    Hi everyone.
I'd like to join again this year. I don't post often but the thread keeps me inspired.
Over the last year I've managed to grow more fruit and veg and we've done a lot more make do and mend. We don't have a completely frugal lifestyle but we're becoming more frugal and living more simply!

I have loads of leftover turkey and gammon so this weekend I will be batch cooking turkey and mushroom pies, turkey curry, ham and lentil soup and ham, leek and potato stew. These can all be frozen for dinners through the month. I also have a turnip, any suggestions on what to do with it? I've never found a good recipe!

    Xmas Saver!
    Hi all,
Hope everyone had a peaceful christmas and not been too badly affected by the weather.

I got a polytunnel for christmas !!!!!!!!!! (for some reason I can't use smilies/icons at the moment)

Any hints/tips/suggestions regarding the polytunnel would be very welcome. It will be up at the allotment, I have half a plot and the tunnel will be five metres long.

Some of my aims for 2014 are:

Grow a lot more of my own food.
Source free wood for wood burner (it heats the whole house!)
Make more use of the breadmaker.
Take my own lunch to work.
Have lots of no spend days!

Haven't been near a shop since 23rd Dec. OH has just popped out to get some milk. Great start with the NSDs!

    Keep safe and warm everyone.
    tpf.

Hi, just a though re the smilies, if you just type in the box it wont let you add smilies, but if you click the reply button you can message and add the smilies in then.

Just a thought re poly tunnel, I know absolutely nothing, but this lady (put a link to her thread) if the "goddess of poly tunnels and anything to do with produce etc
