I assume this is a fence alongside your back garden?
As such, the normal rule appears to be....
when you stand with your back to the back wall of the house, is the fence on your left or right? If it's on your right, then it's your fence. If it's on the left and there's a neighbouring property on that side it's theirs.
(If it's a front fence, then with your back to the front wall of the house your fence is to your left)
That's certainly been the case with all three of my properties (built in 1982, 1952 and 2002 respectively), and with both my parents properties (1964 and 1979), and with all the friends I know who've had fence problems over the years.never_too_old wrote: »Evening
do you know how to find out if this is correct? it would be a godsend to us as the fence on the left in our garden was wrecked in the storms.:)Hi
I'm in an ex council house and the houses on either side of me are still council. According to my deeds/plans and verified by my solicitor at the time of purchase, I'm responsible for the fences on both sides and I'm jointly responsible for the one running along the back with the neighbour who's house backs onto mine. I also have two fences at the front of the house that are mine, the only thing I'm not responsible for is the brick wall at the end of my front garden (something to do with the public footpath) and the neighbours garden gate :rotfl:
I think there is a fair amount of variation on this. According to our deeds we 'own' the fences on both sides, though the writing is very spidery as we have the old paper deeds - our house was built in about 1900. Luckily there are walls both sides, topped with low wooden fencing. The walls are fine, but the fencing part blew down one side in the storms a few weeks ago, and OH replaced it. Luckily, he used to do/ teach fencing for part of his job so it was just a question of buying some replacement materials, and it is (unfortunately) not a huge garden!
No spends for me today but OH went to Lidls - not sure how much he spent but it is usually easy to check up online as he always uses his card from our joint account :rotfl:
Nothing of much interest today, I took lunch to work, supper at home from stores, washing dried on line, just the usual0 -
Stomach is in bits today, think I may have ate something dodgy! Probably my own lasagna that I heated up in the oven
Planning a LSD today. Going out for dinner later but the plan is to just eat a salad or something light as I don't think I could stomach anything else.
Using most of my stocks in the fridge. I find I run out of fruit and veg so fast. I usually try to freeze my veg to make it last longer but it's not making a huge difference.
Me and OH were talking about mortgages last night. I think we are taking on too much too soon. So we have decided to concentrate on the wedding for the next 9/10 months and get all the money gathered by the end of this year. Next year, save for our honeymoon and then we should have everything done by next March. We don't get married until next september so this should give us a little bit of a buffer.
I was thinking then we can start to save for a house deposit then. Neither of us are totally comfortable with the idea of taking on a mortgage and potentionally all that debt.094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

Multiply the annual kWhs by the cost per kWh you pay. Mine's 11.741p for a fixed, dual-fuel and on-line tariff, which means a total of £35.223
Then add on 5% vat (for me another £1.76115, giving a total of £36.98415)
Then divide by 52 to get a weekly cost (for me that's just over 71p)Cheryl0 -
THANK YOU CW18... really appreciate you doing it so quickly..Work to live= not live to work0

You're welcome

Just a quick one about fences.....as a rule, even if a neighbours house is council owned, the council will not take responsibility for fixing a fence...the responsibility lies with the tenant....I worked in housing for a number of years and this was frequently a bone of contention for some of the families I supportedMortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

actually, thinking back I agree with the council / tenant rule for fencing. My DD was told at 2 properties that she's responsible - and at the first she was told by neighbours it was council workers had removed the missing panels (they were there when she viewed, but not when she moved in after they'd done a 'final clear up')Cheryl0

Hi All,
I have been absent for a while, life gets in the way sometimes doesn't it? Since my last post, I've had a boiler break down on me, luckily as I rent this is the landlord's responsibility and now it is sorted, we have a new boiler!
We are currently without shower though, but you can't have it all.. Hoping to have new shower installed this week.
Still sticking to the frugal, did a good deed the other day and paid for some repairs on my mum's car, this was from my savings for paying off debt, but I know it was a huge help to her so I'm happy.
Technically a NSD for me today, I bought hair dye with my bo0ts points this morning, so no cash changing hands. But can't dye my hair until I have a shower installed.
Hope everyone is doing well, I need to update my sig as I know I haven't since feb. Hoping to catch up on all the reading of the thread this week. xxxLBM: NOVEMBER 2011 || debt free date:30/06/15 || The Fighting Debt Army: #442 || Frugal Living Challenge 2018 || January 2018 Grocery £1.22/£100 ||0
