  • Hi everyone. Well it's been a fairly frugal week despite all the bills coming out. I made homemade bread maker pizza the other day. A big one for us and a little one for DS1. He adored it! Also been making bread maker bread all week. Off to a baby car boot sale type thing today. I love it because I can totally splurge and spend only about £20 but get loads. Taking Mum so will prob be cost free because she insists on buying! Going to go and sell everything again once our family is complete.

A wee question - If my bread maker takes 3hrs 40 mins to bake a loaf is it still more economical than buying SM bread?

Also - got friends visiting mid June to 1st Oct and they need a car. Can anyone please recommend how to either hire or buy cheaply? Not sure about buying with all the bits & bobs involved. Thank you x

I do occasionally have frozen mushrooms and peppers but only use them in certain things as they go very watery!

They are fine in casseroles and dishes such as chilli or bolognese. To be honest it isn't possible to distinguish that they have been frozen. I always freeze any that start to look past their best in the fridge, if I cannot use them up straight away.

Small spend yeterday - chocolates for my team at work because I am the manager and they are brilliant :A

Today I need to do some shopping, but hopefully not too big a spend. I will look to see what I have that needs using, and get what I need to go with those, plus bread, milk etc for the week.

Probably be best to buy one that has enough MOT and TAX to last the period they are here that way all they will need to worry about is car insurance. there is temporary cover that can be taken out but not too sure of how long that can be done so probably best to look into temporary car insurance. A cheap runaround can be bought cheaply from around £300 onwards depends on their budget really.
  • DawnW, I agree they work out so much cheaper that way!

    Remember this?

You know you're a shopaholic when......

You buy the same pair of shoes in three colours because they're 'comfy'

I'll add a new quote, every day :D
"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."
  • Well why not!! Sometimes about money, sometimes not, often about life in general, always to put a smile on our faces!

Trying to remember if I ever managed that, and I have a feeling I may have. Seem to recall one pair of Cl@rks sandals in white, black and blue.

I've certainly had the same lace-ups in black and blue and sandals in black and white a couple of times (had black, grey and navy suits for work).

Think I currently have 2 or 3 pairs of very flimsy B'n'M sandals in my wardrobe for local use in the summer (have gold, silver and bronze - but not sure if they're 1 design or 2).

But I'm playing my 'bad back' trump card here. With a 30+ year history of back problems (and feet that are wider than average) finding a comfy pair of shoes can take me months - I almost have to start looking for replacements as soon as I buy a pair

I actually have two pairs of identical walking boots at the moment.... but for that I'm playing my 'getting ready for an 800mile cross country walk' card :D

I also have 3 identical pairs of running shoes. Extends the life of them and minimises the the risk of injury as the cushioning gets times to recover between runs (was relevant when I bought them, as I used to run 5 times a week).

So far no spending. Still in bed LOL!!! Been bidding on a few thing on ebay.

Did spend some money on e-bay buying some adhesive backing board last night. To help me frame and mount my x-stitch pressies.

No heating on but the washing machine is. And hope to get it on the line :T

Off to see a friend this after and watch some TV with them.

And need to drop some things off at a local supermarket for the food bank.

So just some petrol and a bit of leccy to be used today.

    Yours

    Calley

It does depend on your recipe. If this is considerably below the SM price then it would amount to your "savings" against which you need to deduct the cost of energy. It might be worth running a meter on your bread maker to see how much energy it uses to do the entire process. I would imagine it is still cheaper, as it would probably not be using much energy a lot of the time thanks to a thermostat.

First attempt at HM pizza tonight and we loved it. Really enjoyed making it too. Cost to make was around £1.70 so saved us around £7 on our usual takeaway pizza.

I found that it even beats SM pizza for taste even the premium brands. So I now very rarely buy pizza, preferring to make it instead. I found that using supermarket basic mozzarella is just as good.
