Just going back to the energy thing, my boiler's water option has a preheat option and then just the erm, normal option and off. I have it set to be on I think. As in if I run the tap the boiler fires up and ho water comes out. Should I have it set to off? I know the heating is on a timer but don't understand the tap water!

I bought some petrol in the garage and there was a woman in front of me holding up a huge queue. She was quite distressed and speaking in hushed tones but I gathered, from what the SA was saying, that she had forgotten her purse and had no money. The SA was refusing to help, said there was nothing he could do. She started to flap and moved to the side to let SA serve me. I paid for her fuel :o As I walked out the SA told the woman what I had done and I heard her say 'good, so I can go now?' My heart sank as I realised that I had helped a moron and quickly scuttled to my car. She drove off pretty fast and didn't even acknowledge me. I didn't expect a thank you as I had no intention of telling her what I did, but if the shoe was on the other foot and I had found out, I would of at least waved or something.

Oh well. lesson learned and £20 down :(

  • My hot water can be set by time twice a day it can also be over ridden by a button on the control panel or by the emmersion. I have it timed twice a day so there is hot water for baths in the morning and washing up throughout the day. Hope that helps?

What a lovely thing for you to do and a very disgraceful reaction from her! If you had done that for me I would have not only thanked you but taken your address so I could pay you back! Maybe her reaction was due to embarrasement and when she got home she realised how rude she had been? Either way good on you for being so nice. I once did a similar thing but on a far smaller scale a young man infront of me in builders clothes was buying his lunch and was 50p short he was going to put something back but I gave him the 50p he was very grateful. Shame the lady today wasn't!

Don't know about the preheat, but boiler firing up when you turn on a hot tap makes me think you have a combi boiler (which means no hot water tank)? If so, then I believe turning it off will stop you getting any hot water at all (based on using DD's system - I have a traditional one). Either kind of system has a timer on the heating side :)

My frugal attempts have gone to the dogs with the way I have been feeling lately.

Talking about going to the dogs....last friday I went out for a meal. Although we only had main courses there was so much food left over I asked for it to be put in a doggie bag. Felt a bit embarassed but thought, "what the heck, we've paid for it".

My dogs literally wolfed it down. They seemed to enjoy it so much better than their usual dried food. I will ask everytime now -without shame!

I a;ways take a food bag with me where ever I go, and any meat thats left cut up for the dog.
If there is gammon, steak and chicken his first hit is for the steak..

Even took my food bag on Orient Express... xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • NSD today. Spent few quid fuel going to see family before they fly off for holiday - bought us fish and chips so had a great meal with them.

Car needs a tank of fuel. Last one went much quicker than usual but it can wait until Saturday as not going anywhere tomorrow. Lidl shopping day on Saturday - £7.50 worth of nectar points (no idea how) which we might spend if needed on way home.

Got a homemade pork burger each for lunch tomorrow. Then homemade pizza for tea which is always a big winner! Little too much bread for one day but not awful.

Oh that's so sad. I cannot believe she didn't say a huge thank you to you. Good on you for being so nice. Go karma!

you did a lovely kind and generous thing.
