have been looking at the other posts-we are all on the same wave length-getting frugal-I cut up and re-use christmas cards as tags-have started to bulk buy-lentils,chickpeas,rice bought.I cook from scratch-vegan-need to batch and bulk cook and bake to fill 2 freezers-small ones-pensioner on my own with a pension under £9.000and paying off debts on a DMP-so will probably budget from jan-march, then revise budget as in april increases expected on rent etc with a small increase in pension. what do be others include on their frugal financial budget-everything or just f
food etc., Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all xx

  • Did have a bit of a burn out yesterday.... went out for the day (rarity) to the botanical gardens... there was a food fest there ( wasn't impressed) and then went onto the big local 'posh' farm shop, which was fab, but VERY expensive.. we did treat ourselves and bought some steaks for tonight, some chutney, cake and a sack of spuds, so at least I got some frugal shopping in, in the way of the spuds...lol...

We are really debating on getting a poly tunnel to replace a greenhouse... (we had it secondhand, and haven't put the glass/plastic in it yet) we need the garden at the smallholding to start generating a small income.. plus we really do need to start growing a lot more food for us, and for the pigs... can we get away with the expense, being classed as an investment???

Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I'm starting mine off today as it's payday!

I've dug out an old unused cash book and will be tracking all my incomings and outgoings from payday to payday meticulously this year.

My second frugal task is to rummage through my wardrobe and find an outfit to wear to my work's Christmas do on Friday. Normally I wouldn't think twice about going to the shops and buying new, including shoes, accessories etc.

I'm actually trying to not buy any clothes at all this month. I absolutely do not need any more.

I had my works night out on Friday and did exactly the same thing. No one notices any different anyhow and I still had a good time.

I am planning on no new clothes for a while but I do really need new shoes. I have been needing new shoes for ages now but put off looking for any as I find it hard to get shoes for my feet. I have been wearing crocks which doesn't help as anything now other than crocks feels too tight!

I anticipate the biggest challenge being finding a pair of tights without ladders in them :rotfl:I totally begrudge paying £6 for a new pair, especially as they seem to disappear into the unknown about a week later. There are too many females in this house!

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
Am already starting the frugality from today! Forced upon me though, as there has been fraudulent activity on my bank account, so card has been cancelled and i am awaiting a new one. Great time of year!

Luckily i have enough cash for petrol to get to work and food for the week. I also have finished the Christmas present shopping. So no more spending money unless i have to!
  • Please count me in. I am debt and mortgage free, but have no private pension provision and I will retire in four years or so and will have to save like fury to have a little more to supplement basic state pension. I already have a lodger and live reasonably thriftily but can get carried away with things like solar panels and greenhouse, etc. which I see as an investment. I think the key is to question every spend but keep a balance as well - frugal and not downright mean.
