gripe about BuyMobilePhones.net

Hello,

I buy a phone and contract from this company, and they slipped in a subscription to the Gadget Helpline, free for the first month and then £3.99 per month after, payable twice a year - £23.94.
I did not notice this until I got the first bill.
Since I had never asked for this and would never choose it as an option I was unhappy with it being added..
I called BuyMobilePhones and complained to the guy, and to his manager but they came with the same line of "it was listed when you bought it", and refused to refund me.
I eventually accepted that I was not getting anywhere and would just have to live with the lost £23.94. However I did cancel the insurance I had bought with them as an expression of my disgust.

This is very much a case of buyer beware!

I would not use this company again.

Andy

  • Not really. This comes up almost daily. I have taken out several contracts recently with them and it is clearly on the page you agree to at the point of sale. Cancelling is easy and anyone paying the minimum of attention when they order would have to pay nothing unless they choose to. Like it or not, it's part of the deal you agree to. If ytou don't accept it, don't confirm the order. It's the same with most (if not all) other website dealerships.
  • I have just had a look. It clearly displays the product in the order basket. I do feel there should be an opt out available though which there isn't. You would have had to ring them up to cancel before the free month ends. Someone a little more law-orientated will have to confirm if they are allowed to bundle in additional chargeable services without giving you the option of opting out at the time of sale.
