Booze Cruise (France)

Hi
We went to France on holiday in the summer and called here:
http://www.calaiswine.co.uk/
I pre-ordered all the wine online in the hotel and just picked it up before going to the ferry port. It was easy to find too. The bonus was that I could see the prices before I went online and they even have a price list you can download so you can take it to Carefour and Auchan with you.

We bought quite a few wines on the 3 for £6 deal which were good quality and I used supermarket grocery sites to compare the price before I went to see what sort of price they retailed here first. You have to remember the prices are in pounds not euro but you can pay in either.0 -

You might think, We've had people turn up in cars at the taxi rank wanting to know where they go to put the car on the train, this is Waterloo and more than once, there are still people who pitch up with cases on the domestic side of the station looking for Eurostar and that's 6 years after it moved across London!
The answer to the first question by the way was 'drive to the end of the road, turn left onto Westminster Bridge road and drive South for 60 miles! mind you that was if I was having a bad day?0 -
Have you made sure that the operator has the new number plate details? Probably, but just thinking. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

This is another good cash and carry where you can order online and have it packed up and ready for collection. Bottles of wine for 1.50 euros of similar quality to what you pay £5 for in UK supermarkets.0 -
Hi all
Just a follow up to say thanks for all the suggestions
We ended up getting our wine from Calais Wines
Staff were friendly (and fellow brits!) and the price was miles cheaper than the UK
Highlights was the much renowned steakhouse "Rotende" which I must admit was very good but not as good as some of the ones I have been to in the UK!
Croque-monsieur was also tasty with "proper" french fries!
Eiffel tower was lit amazingly well for the Mandela tribute
all in all, a good weekend away which i would recommend to anyone!
the drive is only around 3 hours from Calais
I wanted to upload some pics i took but as i am a new user, this is not possible!! sorry if some of the above text does not make sense, i did take some pics to add!!0 -
So glad you had a good time.
Not sure how much you are allowed to do as a new user, but can you upload to photobucket and use the IMG codes? The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -

Three bottles of decent stuff for a tenner, and a good choice too.:beer:
exactly and even cheaper at lidl or aldi
the majority of people who buy and drink wine just buy it for the price or the fancy label anyways0 -

these worked out £3.49 a bottle compared to £4.50 (at the time) but I agree, unless your intentionally going on a booze cruise, its not worth it saying that, Calais Wines (the outlet we used) do an offer where if you spend £250 or more on booze, they pay for your crossing....0
