Uni interview but dont want to go

Unless there is some very compelling reason not to go I would suggest she has nothing to lose (ok apart from travel cost etc) by going to the interview. It is not a requirement usually that all applicants have to attend an interview, although I note the comment from another poster who had an offer withdrawn. In the current climate in the HE sector most universities will be scrambling to get students, especially students with good grades, so would be unlikely to withdraw an offer for this reason. Why not ring Admissions at the university?0

It may be her third choice & she doesn't really fancy it, but I'd say there are two choices. Withdraw at UCAS level (& phone the university confirming) or go for it.
Exams are tricksy things & an interview may mean a place even if things didn't go as hoped. It's both a chance to meet the place, staff, site & an insurance policy - honestly she should seize this as a You Never Know chance!0 -
Attending the interview would mean the loss of money (travel expenses) and time. Do remember that time taken away from study could mean lower grades, so this factor is important.
Not attending the interview would mean the loss of any chance of a place at that university: if your son is sure that he would never want to go there, then that does not matter. Experience of interviews is also valuable, but there are plenty of other ways to gain such experience (mock interviews through the careers service, for instance). It would NOT make the slightest difference to any other applications.
I would stress that this is a decision for your child to make: just be sure that s/he understands the situation and the consequences.0 -
the thing is, if you are invited for an interview, this is part of the university's process of deciding whether to make you an offer or not. if you don't go, then it's unlikely that they'll make an offer, otherwise they would have done this without interviewing in the first place.0

DD only got one interview - and that was for a course she didn't really want to do. It was the same as the other courses she did want but was hundreds of miles away and would cost a fortune to get there. She went to the interview as practice and found out later that the other courses did not do interviews and relied on their academic friends' opinions at the one very distant course. This is for a one of the para-medical professions for which there are many applicants for a tiny number of places. It seems that they can instantly filter out those who can't be bothered to literally travel the extra miles to get on a course.I am the Cat who walks alone0

Well don't leave us in suspense! Did she get a place on one of the other courses that she did want?0 -
Got an offer for the distant one. Which would mean paying fees and doing a four year course (Scotland). Still waiting to hear from the others which would be free (NHS-funded) and three years long.I am the Cat who walks alone0
