Are they two different companies?

Aren't they are both owned by Carphone Warehouse

I am with Talk Talk Mobile and want to move my old phone number to them but I don't want the same hassle as this poster https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4842460

Yes, they are two different companies having split some years ago.

Wth regard to moving your existing number from Talk Talk to Talkmobile then it is essential that you have your pac available when you sign the agreement (which is what the other poster didn't have) as this has to be input as part of the sales process.

If you don't provide your pac at that time then you will end up in the same situation.

Is that what they call confusion marketing?

Two companies named almost the same, owned by the same owner and selling the same product.

I am about to move from Tesco to TalkTalk Mobile. I have had the TalkTalk Mobile sim over a month now and hope I don't have the same problem as the Talkmobile poster!

No; Vodafone purchased Talk Mobile outright in 2011 - see last but one paragraph:

In the UK, where the largest player, Everything Everywhere, has lost customers in recent quarters, Vodafone added 325,000 subscribers to reach 19.3m.

These include 244,000 transferred from Talk Mobile, a virtual network previously run by Carphone Warehouse which used Vodafone's network. Talk's customers have now been acquired by the operator for an undisclosed sum.

    Thanks, that explains it all.

I am pleased to see they are now two entirely separate companies.
