or bottle of beer and socks for the older ones?
  • Elderly people can be difficult to buy for, since they usually already have just about everything they need. If you have family photos, a photo calendar might be nice: I think Vistaprint do cheapish ones, and £1 shops sometimes do calendars with spaces to stick in your own 6 x 4" photos, which works out pretty cheap. If you have a decent printer you could even make your own. I'm getting my 90-year-old grandfather biscuits this year. He always gets biscuits from someone, usually the Christmassy tinned ones, but I can get fancy locally baked biscuits in my area which will be a bit different from the usual.
The suggestion of touch screen gloves for the youngsters is probably a good one, and chocolates are a good default for most people - nearly everyone likes chocolates. If you have a Home Bargains near you, they're not bad for cheap toiletry gift sets, and if they've still got them, 29p pocket packs of tissues printed with banknote designs - a fun novelty extra. Gift boxed pens are sometimes cheap too - try your local £1 shop. Like socks, they're not very imaginative but a safe choice because everyone uses pens and socks and needs new ones from time to time. I'd probably steer clear of cheap aftershave though - it's a bit hit-and-miss, and might end up unused. Don't feel bad because you're on a tight budget - inexpensive gifts are still nice.

Also what would a 85 y/old lady like which is under a £5?

Older ladies love jars of good quality face cream. Superdrug is doing a few of the £10 brands half price. We got great aunt (99) a jar of the Olay Mature Skin Cream - http://www.superdrug.com/good-to-glow/olay-mature-skin-night-cream-50ml/invt/608331

We know she'll like it cos we got her one last year and she was thrilled. Kept it on the shelf on her zimmer and took it everywhere.

A tin of sweets or biscuits for the family is usually foolproof. On the other hand I have to agree with others - assuming they are not your children - if you can only afford £10 between them, you can't really afford to buy them a present. Perhaps its time to knock it on the head? No doubt they will have lots of presents from other people.
  • Asda have the boxes of Jelly Babies, Wine Gums, Liquorice Alsorts etc which are normally around £4 per box on offer for £2.00 just now.

    Theses ones :- http://groceries.asda.com/asda-webstore/landing/home.shtml?cmpid=ahc-_-ghs-sna3-_-asdacom-dsk-_-hp#/product/910000821659

You could always get one of those each and still have change for the wrapping paper or a pair of sox to throw in with them. Even splitting a multi pack depending on the ages.

Tesco also have Selection boxes on buy one get one free starting at £2.50 for the M&M ones, then £3.50 for Malteaser & friends, Christmas Character bag £3.00, Galaxy Large Selection Box £3.50, Cadbury's Medium Selection Box £2.75.

    Available here http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/search/default.aspx?searchBox=selection+box&icid=tescohp_sws-1_selection+box

They also have a selection of their gift sets reduced to half price or buy one get one free

    http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Search/Default.aspx?searchBox=gift+sets&newSort=true&search.x=0&search.y=0

And if you have any club card vouchers you could use these to save your cash.

Also this website is worth a look https://www.halfcost.co.uk delivery is free just now if you spend over £5, I just received the butterfly book mark and keyring today £1.99 and butterfly trinket box £1.99 amongst other things and it's stunning for the money, is this any good for the older lady?

Do you have any Boot's Points you can use? Another option to save cash or O2 priority moments (there is a thread on the grabbit board about the freebies available here), you may be able to get something there which is suitable or even free.

Do you have Sports Direct near you? You can pick up their basic Slazenger t-shirts around 2 for £5 and the quality is not bad, chuck in a sweetie from a multi pack and your sorted.

Can you tell I shop on a budget quite often so yes it's doable without spending your money on "Tat"

Good luck and have a great Christmas and regardless of the ages, they are lucky people that you are thinking about them at this time of year when your budget is tight.

Last year the kids had loads of gifts and toys but because of where we live it was really hard to get batteries until 27th December!
Make sure you get batteries for all the toys. I bought mine at
    cheap-batteries.co.uk

    :)

Wow around here all the corner shops and petrol stations all had good stocks of batteries available on Christmas day itself. Apparently it's a top selling line on Christmas day.

OP I'd spend the £10 on a joint big tin of sweets ....or if you're of the type how about homemade sweets or cakes -rather than buy something unlikely yo be as appreciated for £2.50 each.
