Driving into central London if you don't have to and aren't familiar with it is a mugs game. I'm with anewman - catch the train. Alternatively drive to somewhere just north of London and do the last bit on the train.

It`s a long walk from TCR station to Grosvenor square ( if that`s where you are heading for). Oxford Circus is much closer and Bond St nearer still. If you take into account London parking charges and the congestion charge, it will probably be cheaper to go by train as already suggested. If your appointment is on a Monday, you might be able to spend Sun night in a Travellodge for £15 or £26 and arrived refreshed.
    Good luck.

    Hi Pops
Drive down M6 and M40 and then come off at Beaconsfield M40 junction 2
    - get a train into london from there - theres car parking at the station but if you are not early enough for that there is a cheap car park in the middle of the small town about 5 minutes from the station.

You can get a train / tube ticket there - and train goes to paddington I think but been a while since i used it now i live in ireland. Hope this shows you the map of the town centre - its from multimap

Having read the bit about it being imperative that you are there by nine, I think that you really should spend the night before nearby. Travel in London can easily come to a stop, but if you are a 15 min walk away it won`t affect you. There are many threads on bargain London hotels on the site.

I work 5 minutes away and parking is 20p for 3 minutes. With a max stay of 4 hours. Lots of people who visit our office park at Stanmore and take the tube in. I can't say how good that is as I've never tried it. Sorry

depending on which way you come , either m40 or m1, i would suggest m40 is better option , less traffic in general. the closer to town you get the more difficult it will be to park. the nearest underground stations are marble arch and bond street. there is an underground carpark in park lane very close to the to grosvenor square which is not inside the congestion charge zone , but be very careful not to stray if you decide to use that one. hillingdon might be a good station for you , easy to find from the a 40, good luck
    speed is good

Even if you drive in you could miss your appointment - it just takes one accident or breakdown and Central London comes to a grinding halt.

I'd travel down the day before & book one of the Travelodges in the area. Generally Sunday night is cheap as the weekenders have gone but the businessmen haven't turned up

I had to go to the USA embassy last year from the north west. I drove to Luton (down the M6, used toll road etc), really nice easy drive through the night. Parked at Luton train station, the one the London bombers used! Popped on a train into the centre and then took a taxi to the embassy. Pretty easy. Managed to get a whole day of sightseeing in afterwards. Got the train back to the car and then stayed in a cheap hotel just north of Luton for the night with a great Chineese takeaway next door!!!
Good luck with the visa.... they aren't as intimidating as they pretend to be, lol.
