I think you have 'accidentally' posted in the wrong forum, sounds like one for Discussion Time to me. It's certainly got nothing to do with House Buying, Renting and Selling.

Did the writer say how s/he funded his/her lifestyle? If you are willing to live within your means and can afford to resign from the rat race then I'd say go for it. But how does the writer think the empty tennis courts and libraries are funded? Someone has to pay the taxes that pay for a lot of stuff the writer enjoys.

Lets put aside the fact i think people who do not work voluntarily should not be able to claim benefits/use the NHS/Library/Tennis Courts/Parks that everyone else contributes towards.

What happens if everyone had that attitude? How would you be able to claim if nobody is paying into the system?
The accounts assistant does not have to live beyond his means, you can get a suit for under £100 from a couple of places, shoes for £30-40 - there is no reason you can not look smart with a couple of suits for under £250 - less than a weeks wages or an investment if you look at it in that way.

If no job is good enough for you, why do you not go self employed?

I went self employed not because im too good for a job but because im a pretty quiet person by nature - im useless in interviews so i would never move up the ladder beyond a certain point. This summer, i spent half of it in my bank garden feet up laptop on my knee doing work.

I understand people not wanting to do a job they dont like but to not want to work at all is beyond me. I love the hustle and bustle of going to work, speaking to people, work nights outs etc. One thing i miss since going self employed is office banter.

Its becoming harder and harder to claim benefits, you may find your lifestyle is not sustainable too much longer.

Does this guy just sit around in his council/parents house all day watching daytime tv? Because it certainly can't afford to go out and see the world he talks about.
  • I have said this for a long time, unless you have a good job, then it isn't worth working,

I was offered a job and it was for 36 hours, with misses working, if I went to work then we would lose HB CT, as for me to work misses would have to reduce her hours to be home for the kids

worked out that for a 36 hour week I would be £40 a week better off, than if I sat at home, out of that £40 it would cost me £30 to get to work a week in a car, 20 miles each way 40 miles a day, 5 days a week, total of 200 miles

sometimes it just isn't worth working
  • Where am I? lol

Using the OPs example, it looks like a wage of closer to £300-350 is more realistic but i went on the cautious side and used a lower figure.

At opposite ends of the spectrum you can have a capitalist economy where everyone works for themselves or a communist society where everyone works for the good of society.

Notice what they have in common?

If we all sat on our backsides and refused to do anything resembling work then we wouldn't last long.
