Christmas present disaster - HELP (Lego Creationary Needed)

Oh Blimey
My sister asked what my son (14 y.o.) wanted for Christmas.
As he has now started going off to the pictures with school friends, I suggested Cine gift voucher - she has purchased £30 of same ...
All good, except my husbands bro and sis-in-law have just given our son a years cineworld pass
Very generous of them - but ... (I wish they had spoken to us first, they did it while he was with them last week, told him it will be his xmas pressie, but he can start using straight away)
I have offered to buy my sister's voucher (dh & I will use it - tho I could have done without having to spend the extra £30 right now), but sister now needs another idea. I said no probs, he also wants Lego Creationary.
Just looked, it's OOS everywhere except the blighters who want £50 + for it (was about £25 a few weeks back).
Can anyone find us any !!!!

I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

There's various people selling them on eBay for less than £30 but you'll have to ensure you get confirmation from the sellers that the sets are complete and undamaged.
As it is now a discontinued product, if you don't want to pay £40 or more then eBay and other similar sites are likely the way to go.0 -

They're all used tho, doesn't seem quite the thing, giving a used set as a christmas pressie (altho I'm not snobbish about buying used things for myself).
The annoying thing is I NEARLY bought a set on Amazon about 4 - 5 weeks ago. Didn't realise it was a retired productI try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

I'd have let your sister give him the vouchers and then you could have bought them from him yourself without putting her under extra pressure!
Probably too late for that now she knows, what about just the cash so he can buy some Lego in the sales or off ebay when parents sell their children's duplicate sets after Christmas?
Or let your sister think of something, I presume she's an adult?0 -

Have to disagree here, if the condition is good, its something that peeps want and cant be got anywhere else, in my family used is perfectly acceptable, we would rather have good used condition than not get it at all.Slimming World at target0 -

I suppose it is a matter of personal preference. My view is that if he really wants it then it shouldn't matter whether it is used or not provided that it is complete. If in a few years time you bought him a used car for a Christmas present (not saying you will but it isn't unheard of for parents to do that) there wouldn't be any complaints and if he really wants this Lego Creationary set then I don't really see that much of a difference other than the cost.
I guess another option is to see whether the cost of acquiring it through a foreign retailer (such as Amazon US) and having it shipped here would be more expensive or not. It's certainly possible to get some goods shipped into the UK from abroad for less than what it would cost to buy them in the UK but you have to take into account shipping costs and any import duties due.0 -
Perhaps try LEGO UK? I had a query once when looking for something LEGO-related, and they were very helpful

Well I could, but it's a bit disappointing to get something you don't want/need as a christmas pressie isn't it? And actually, I would have felt a bit dishonest, not to tell sis, once I knew.
Well, we are trying not to give DS cash at the moment, as he ends up just buying more flipping computer games with it ... we're trying to encourage less computer timePerson_one wrote: »Probably too late for that now she knows, what about just the cash so he can buy some Lego in the sales or off ebay when parents sell their children's duplicate sets after Christmas?Person_one wrote: »Or let your sister think of something, I presume she's an adult?
Heck, that's HARSH. Of course she is an adult, but asked us what he would really like as we know him best.
Similarly, I asked her what her child would like - is that so unusual ??
We do live 200 miles apart, don't see each others children often enough to know every detail of their lives you see!!I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

The problem is you don't know the condition until you actually get it, do you ?I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.
