I have quite oily skin I suppose, especially around the t zone. My skin is quite good now and has taken some time to find the routine that suits me.

I take my eye makeup off with a mixture of olive oil and witch hazel (mixed together in an old container), then use boots cucumber wipes (but any cheap wipes are usually ok). Then I use witch hazel on two cotton pads and smooth over my skin thoroughly to remove any extra ground in dirt.
I then follow with Bodyshop vit C serum - not oily and no need to moisturise, just use a trial size Sancturary moisturiser for around my eyes.

I always let my skin dry between using the wipes, witch hazel and then the serum so it has time to balance itself inbetween.

everything is very cheap (I have found witch hazel from sainsbury's at £1.50 a bottle and lasts about 3 months) except the serum but still not too bad compared to products used before. The trial size moisturiser has lasted me ages as I only use the tiniest amount each time.

I also find that my skin is better when using mineral powder foundation (just a little) than liquid. I have broken out in a few spots when I have used liquid foundation 3 days in a row... I think for me, my skin doesn't need the excess liquid from moisturising and foundation.

but not everyone is the same... it takes trial and error

I drinks lots of water & green tea- I think that helps me.

Skin care wise at night I take off all my make up with wipes - usually Nivea whilst I'm sat watching tv. Then I will moisturise with Elizabeth Arden visable difference and reapply before bed if necessary.

In the morning - its just a quick splash with a face wash - nothing fancy - Ive tried them all and the budget face washes do the same job. I put on a light moisturiser followed by Benefit Porefessional and then Benefit Flawless Foundation. This is then followed by either a lot or minimal make up - dependant on my mood lol and how much time I have before leaving.

I'll use a Facial Scrub about 4 times a week as well - again a budget one is grand - but Aprai in particular is very good.

My skin skin is dry but can develop and oily tea zone and the above works for me !!

Hot cloth cleansing used to be called "washing your face" when I was young.

I wash mine twice a day with aqueous cream and wipe it off with warm water. I only moisturise in the mornings. Don't bother with toner - not really sure what it's for.

Toner is for closing your pores and calming your skin after exfoliating etc. Cold water is meant to be best toner!

Some people swear by witch hazel as a toner.
  • I have quite oily skin but I've found that the following routine keeps everything in check and stops me from breaking out:

    Morning
    - Avene Soapless Gel Cleanser
    - Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
    - Origins Ginzing eye cream
    - La Roche Posay Effaclar Matt: don't always apply this, it depends if my skin feels like it needs some more moisture
    - La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 50

    Evening
    - Mac Cleanse off Oil: although I do have some cleansing balms to use up as well
    - Avene Soapless Gel Cleanser
    - Avene Cleanance K / NUXE Dry Oil: I alternate these every other night
    - Avene Ystheal + Eye Cream

Once a week I'll use the Avene gentle face scrub and the Avene Cleanance face mask. I use a lot of Avene products because they are good for sensitive skin, and although my skin is quite hardy, both my mother and grandmother have developed quite serious rosacea and I want to try and prevent that for as long as possible!
