What is your skin/beauty routine?

i am trying to establish a beauty routine. Like cleanse, tone and moisturise and all that jazz.

So is it the 'normal' routine to cleanse, tone and moisturise once a day?
What else do you do to get good skin?

I am in my 30's and have never really bothered before, hence the questions!

Also, i have bought a hot cloth cleanser, how often should i use this? Is it a once a week thing, or everyday as part of the CT&M routine?

HELP!

Hot cloth cleansing used to be called "washing your face" when I was young.

I wash mine twice a day with aqueous cream and wipe it off with warm water. I only moisturise in the mornings. Don't bother with toner - not really sure what it's for.

What skin type do you have? if its combination or oily then you will wanna use a toner as it helps remove oil and tighten pores.

Hot Cloth Cleanser do you mean like Liz Earles Cleanse and Polish? Use it daily, twice a day morning and evening. Its a cleanser but as your meant to remove it with a muslim cloth or facial cloth it exfoliates gently as well. Really massage it into the skin for a good couple of minutes before removing.

You'd then apply toner (if needed), eye cream and then moisturiser. I apply a moisturiser day and night and use seperate ones. I use a one with a spf in the day and a more heavy rich one at night. At the moment am using Olay Regenerist Night Renewal Elxir a couple times a week as it contains Glycolic Acid ( but you need to wear a spf in the day when using this). Which helps chemically exfloliate your skin and also helps with aging and so on. I don't really like manual exfoliates as they to harsh.

Your moisturer doesn't have to contain spf if your primer or foundation does but make sure one does to stop sun damage. Even on a winter day in UK you need at least factor 15.

Make sure when cleansing and putting moisturising that you apply it to the neck area and upper chest area and back of the hands.

Drink plently of water, eat healthily and don't smoke, avoid the sun and don't drink alot is the best tip but I think we all know that.

Geri, your comment made me giggle, thanks :) I did have to wonder if it was worth it, but i bought the superdrug Hot Cloth Cleanser for only £2.98 (half price).

Thanks RachRuby :) I have combination skin. Oily in places, dry in other places. I will have a look at toners, any recommendations (budget friendly!)?
Yes the hot cloth cleanser is a cheaper alternative to something like the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish.

I already have a moisturiser, i bought it today, it's a nivea one for combination skin. Hopefully that'll be OK.

I have the superdrug hot cloth one as well its very cheaper alternative to Liz Earle's. For a toner I like Simple but i'd just dab it on your oily parts such as t-zone. Yeah Nivea moisturer is good it will probably have a spf but if not foundation generally tends to have factor 15 in.

I am switching from a plain 3 step system to a full on "Korean style" routine! Oil cleanser, regular cleanser, Clarisonic, scrub, masks, serum, acne treatment, sunscreen, moisturizer, toner...

    Yup, getting serious.

If you don't wear make-up you can probably get away with just cleansing your skin once a day. For the moisturiser, see how it goes, some can make your skin look shiny and can block up the pores.

I'm 46 and have pretty good skin. My face gets water splashed on it in the shower, and every 7-10 days I do a facial scrub, but that's it - don't use moisturiser etc. My skin's happiest when I put the last amount of gunk on it.

Unless the above routine is tried and tested on you I would advise gently, gently with regard to the clarisonic and the scrub and start gradually with both, for a lot of skin types this could be too harsh.

I have no connection with the blogger, but if you have not already found her set aside a few hours (yes really) with a pen and notebook and read "beauty mouth blog", both the fact sheets and the clinics. She does only use high end products, but a little re-search should be able to sort out less expensive products, and gwp sizes can often be bought to try products out. Don't discount a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, seeds nuts and enough water too. :)

Just thought I'd add my 2 pence FWIW.

At night I use tescos pro formula make up remover with a Johnson's face wipe, put some toner on a cotton wool pad whisking it quickly over my face, then put a night cream on. I might use a serum before the moisturiser if my face is dry which tends to happen if I've been outside or not had enough drink that day.

In a morning, I run toner quickly over my face or a wipe whichever I pick up first to get rid of night scum. Then apply day cream followed by a primer to help my make up stick.

Every month or so if my face feels "off" I use neutrogena grapefruit wash. I used to use masks but found they exacerbated my combination skin dry bits got dryer and oily bits more oily!

I personally think you just have to experiment with all brands, high and low find and find the one that works for you! I wear high end make up, but just use Aldi moisturisers, it works for me.
