Using ovivo abroad

Hi guys,

I'm going to the states in a few days and would like to use my ovivo sim to quickly call my family to let them know where I am when I arrive at the airport. Am I correct in thinking that at worst case, my phone will just use up all of the credit I put onto it? Meaning Ovivo is pay as you go and I can't incur crazy charges like I see here where people have bills over £1000?

I'm sorry if that's a daft question but I could never afford crazy phone bills like that.

Many thanks!

Your best bet is to find a wifi network and use Viber to phone them for free.

You are right that the worst thing that can happen if you use the phone abroad is that the credit will be used up.

No risk of bill shock with Ovivo (or other PAYG), so low stress.

Last time I was in the USA with an Ovivo SIM, it worked fine (WiFi not in the arrivals/pick-up area sadly) and I expected a £1-£2 cost.

On checking the online account, they had managed to move Philadelphia to the South Pacific and charged a whole lot more. CS were fine in sorting it out but make sure your SIM has enough credit in case.
  • Thanks for all of your comments. That's a big relief! Another bonus for pay as you go :)

Ovivo charge £10.00 per Megabyte in the USA.
  • Top up before you go. You get top up bonuses from ovivo too :)

Sometimes, especially in USA, it might be cheaper to buy a phone card or local sim.
  • Thanks guys. Will I still be charged £10/mb if I turn mobile data off and just send texts?

You only get charged if you use it, so keep data off.
It's not just about the money
