Doesn't ask in the quote system and doesn't mention bankruptcy in the assumptions.

A bankruptcy 8 years ago may not be a problem for many mainstream insurers. Depending on when this was discharged they could ask you to pay the premium in full rather than dds.
You'll normally also have to declare a "special term / condition" applied to a previous policy - ie flood risk excluded..
You will probably not be able to confirm a policy online but if you do a few "dummy" quotes you can ring competetive insurers directly to give further details.
There will be companies who will auto decline at quote stage but these do not need to be declared to future insurers - they simply don't cover your postcode.
You will need to speak to the insurer directly and go through a quote - it's no use them saying that they will accept previous bankruptcy if the cover is no good for you.
You can also consider specialists eg
http://www.homeprotect.co.uk/ They cover bankruptcy, flood risk, insurance refused, etc
