Fake job reply?

I few weeks back I applied for a Job in leyland and over the weekend I received this email:

Dear Candidate,
Firstly thank you for your interest in the position of order picker based at Waitrose in Leyland (just off junction 29 of the M6). Our placement team has gone through all the CV’s and yours shows interest to me.
The reason for this letter is due to the number of applications I have received for this position it would take too long to phone everyone for creation of a short list. If you respond to orderpicker-leyland@live.com I will promptly call or email you to arrange a suitable time for me to meet you on a 1 to 1 basis and for those successful candidates the training & induction day will be immediate and we aim to start you the very next day.
To help with your decision as to whether you wish to respond to this email I have enclosed a brief overview.
The position is a permanent one (and not just for the Christmas rush!!!), however you will receive a wage (or 2) before Christmas is here as we pay weekly (every Friday), Best Recruitment have been working with Waitrose for the last 7 years, supplying 2 depots down south, as the depot in Leyland was opened only 4 months ago therefore the demand for many varied positions is high and the first task is we need to supply 50 pickers trained, and in place working by the 17/12/13 so time is of the essence. We have been guaranteed at least 50 positions will be available for the long term and Waitrose will offer those workers from Best Recruitment (that meet performance levels expectations) a full time and permanent position direct with Waitrose as opposed to with Best Recruitment should this happen with you Waitrose policy isn’t to have employees but partners (all Waitrose workers have shares in the company). Furthermore as we are recruiting a large amount of workers that will open other positions such as Team Leaders, Supervisors, and Admin. So basically this is for serious applicants only.
There are 2 shifts for 6 days per week.
First shift from 04.00 till 12.00 midday, second shift from 16.00 till 00.00 midnight, the rate of pay is £6.45 per hour for all, however each shift has 2 hours that are in premium time which pay 33% more for those 2 hours.
If you wish to be shortlisted, please respond to orderpicker-leyland@live.com DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL, BUT SEND TO EMAIL IN THIS LETTER. Anyone who responds to this email will be quickly contacted, please include the best contact details for you for me to reach you on, so I can meet with you to finalise your position and proceed with training & start dates.
Only respond if you are serious about the position!!

The e-mail address makes it seem dodgy to me. Surely any agency who is big enough to have a contract supplying staff to Waitrose doesn't need to use hotmail e-mail addresses.

Also the actual e-mail address doesn't make sense. You'd have to create a new e-mail address for every job you had. if you did it like that.

It's either fake or some tinpot organisation at best.

Where did you see the job advertised initially?

The bad grammar and non business email address are suspicious. However you could meet with them and see what they say.

Actually, what I would do is phone waitrose HR/recruitment and just check that they use that particular agency and whether they know if the job is legit.

I thought the email looked dodgy to me as well because why would recruitment use hotmail accounts for email?

A quick Google shows that Best Recruitment Network is real and has a branch in Preston. Give them a ring tomorrow and see if it's legitimate or someone using their name for other purposes.

I agree. The letter seems very badly written and it's strange that they haven't called you.

Tell Waitrose their distribution centre is being used falsely - they might send you a voucher or something!
