Buying a "family" house in South West London

Hello,
So, my wife keep reminding me that now our kid is growing fast, we need to move out of our shoe box into a proper house. Our current house is a one bed flat that we bought in 2007 when the prices were in peak. We just wanted a nice quite area that has good commute links and we liked our place.
Have been looking for a 2-3 bed house now in south west London, Richmond, Teddington, Hampton Wick are the preferred areas that we have been looking. But looks like our budget of £400,000 is not sufficient. Top priority for us is good schools and safe and nice neighbourhood that we can raise our kid.
Would really appreciate some advice, suggestion of what other places we can move to.

Hi, it depends on where you work? Do you need to be near a certain train or tube line? What size house are you looking for?
I think if you give a bit more detail about what you need, then you will get plenty of help here.
They seem a very knowledgable bunch on here from what I have seen.
Good luck0 -
Many Thanks Margrie,
I work in Vauxhall while my wife works in Ealing Braodway. I was hoping to get something with 1200 sq feet.0 -
Consider Kingston and Twickenham. It really depends on budget. There are a lot to look at.0

I think on that budget you will need to look further out"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

You may be able to get something in Ham - an ideal place to raise a family. Although a bus ride to either Kingston or Richmond for commuting (hence the lower prices) many do commute from Ham.0

those are the 3 top areas in that immediate location and on that budget you will need to look elsewhere as it won't work there. Richmond is one of the most expensive outer London boroughs for a reason - its nice and full of city typesRichmond, Teddington, Hampton Wick are the preferred areas that we have been looking.

you are going to have to compromise on the commute
Kingston is the next obvious one but it will be a hike to the station(s)
Hampton is a lot cheaper than Hampton Wick. My boss lives there for that reason and had exactly the same problem as you , his wife liked Teddington, he liked H Wick but they could only afford Hampton itself. Good schools and he can walk to the station but it's that much further out and can be hard to get out of because of rush hour traffic on the A316 and the lower sunbury road/ Hampton court bridge0 -
Have you looked at Southfields? Not sure how far the budget will stretch thoughHello,

Have you tried Isleworth? There is also a new build development over in Brentford, by Barratt.0
