Mobile phone purchase

My DS has seen a mobile phone on a US website (not to be released in UK til Jan)and thinks he can buy it for use in UK ...very stupid ? But is this possible?

And remember all prices in the US are ex local sales tax. So that will add a bit as will shipping to the UK and import tax and vat!!!

It's perfectly possible, but probably a bad idea. It'll also come with a US charger and probably only a US warranty.
Add the shipping, import duty and VAT and he probably won't save very much over buying it here in January. Why can't he wait 3 weeks?

As said and it might be US networks not UK .
Warranty is usually void or at best return phone to USA .
