I've brought one of these set it up and then realised you can only get limited channels ondemand so easier to watch all the channels I want on the ipad..

It is now in a draw somewhere.. A waste of £9.99 :(

I'm guessing Sky have removed channels which are or could be in competition with themselves. A reasonable assumption I'd think. The standalone Roku box wouldn't have such restrictions.

Each to his/her own. I personally find the BBC iPlayer shows in HD on big screen brilliant, and much better than an iPad or laptop. Why not simply do that (and 4OD of course), and then iPad for everything else?

oh does the now box show in HD? the one I purchased is for upstairs (no aerial or HD set up there) but for the sake of £10 it might be worth getting one for downstairs. I watch most things on catch up via the PC be nice to watch in HD on the TV. I haven't received mine yet is it something that could easily be transferred from the upstairs to downstairs tv? that would be more MSE :)

Yes, it can play content up to 720p, but it won't do FullHD. Essentially, it is a rebedged, locked-down version of Roku LT.
You wanna hear about my new obsession?
I'm riding high upon a deep recession...

I have now set mine up, it was very easy to do and I can confirm that I did not enter any card details when I did so :)

For the price I am very impressed with it, it would be fantastic if they ever get itv player on it as well but even with out that and not using the paid content it is well worth the money.
  • You don't need to subscribe to Now TV (even the free trial) to buy the box. You need to have a Now TV username, but you don't need to put any payment details in for this.

Have a look at this video, it runs through how to buy it on the Now TV website and set up a username without subscribing :)
