Moving house

We are hoping to move house in a couple of months we currently have Sky which we do not wish to continue with tbh we only really watch main 5 channels, the owners of the house we are buying have full virgin package, we were planning to have freeview so here come the questions

1) Can we use the virgin cable just to access freeview

2) Currently have BT line and AOL calls and broadband could we still use AOL of virgin phoneline

3) Do we have any other options

Thanks in advance

Kathy

    1) No you need an aerial for freeview.

You could look at Youview, either retail, or with BT or Talk Talk as part of a broardband package.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

No, you can't use any other phone provider or ISP on a VM cable line. For that you will need a BT-based line.
Assuming that the departing occupier leaves their Sky dish, all you need is any old Sky box to get Freesat From Sky for nothing (basically the same channels as Freeview), or a Freesat PVR if you want PVR facilities. Both entirely free other than the box cost (if going for Freesat). Either way it's a straight box swap, nothing else required.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

No, MacMan obviously didn't read that your new abode has been the home of Virgin customers.
You basically can't do anything with the Virgin equipment other than receive Virgin services-but only if you subscribe to them.

You could take your old Sky Dish and decoder from your old property and fit it in the new house. Even without a subscription, a Sky box will still receive the Free-To-Air channels which you say is all you watch. Probably well worth the cost of re-installing, though it might be cheaper to buy a new dish if you aren't installing it yourself.

I misread 'we currently have Sky' as being at the new property, not the current one.
OP, if you want Sky at the new property then you need a dish and cable feed. Everything else you already have.

I assume the house has a standard TV aerial? If so, why is everyone making this more complicated than it needs to be? Just buy a Freeview box and hook it up to the standard aerial connection. Job done.

For the phone and broadband, you could either get a BT line and stay with AOL, or you could go with Virgin. If you're going with Virgin, it might be worth looking at a base broadband, TV and phone package to see how the price compares to broadband, phone and buying a freeview box.

It was the OP asking if he could hook up to Virgin to access Freeview that we were answering. I suspect the OP might have been asking this because there isn't currently an aerial and wanted to save the expense.

Satellite and cable have been around for decades now, so there are a lot of houses that have never had aerials fitted, or ones that have fallen into disrepair.
