Virgin Media Price Hike

Just received notification of a 15% price hike from VM

Will be looking to cancel our services but I paid up front for our line rental 6 months ago. According to T&C 's this in non-refundable however as we are being "forced" to cancel due to this steep increase would it be worth battling them for a refund of the months not used?

In what way are you being "forced" to cancel?

The price increase allows you to reject the new terms and leave within minimum term without penalty. It doesn't entitle you to recover upfront line rental already paid that was clearly indicated as non-refundable should you not complete your minimum term.

Forced prob wasn't the right word and I know I'm not, but I think 15% is quite a considerable jump and whilst we can afford it there will be plenty who can't.

We have XL TV, L BB and M phone line. Line rental was paid upfront. We pay £46pm and its increased by £7.

Looks like I'm going to crunch some figures as I won't get that money back. I've tech basically saved £30 so far with paying up front, I'm sure I'll get the rest back in New customer discounts elsewhere.

Cancel your contract early and, if you sign up to Sky via Quidco or Topcashback, this money will pay for the remainder of your line rental plus extra.

I will, already a TCB member and see they were offering £110 odd and sky's 6 months 1/2 price and a £25 M&S voucher thrown in.

Have you factored in the cost of a new BT-based line provision or reconnection that you will require to use any other provider than VM? Up to £130, though usually heavily discounted.

There's a line already in and a dish, previous occupants were with sky. We've been quoted £20 for reinstallation by Sky, voucher will cover that!

Then all you need is a reconnection then. You don't have to take a Sky sub, you can use the existing dish and LNB with any old Sky box or Freesat PVR for nothing save the box cost, to get Freesat From Sky or Freesat respectively.

call VM, threaten to leave, 12 months credit for the price rise will be offered without too much effort.

If you've had it a while then go through with cancellation to get the proper offers from outbound retention. Nothing the people you call will compare to what they outbound team offer you (i just renegotiated and saved £20+ a month versus new customer).
