Compensation from BA

Hi - we were delayed by 12 hours coming home from Colorado, USA in September this year. We originally booked our flights through BA who took full payment for all flights. BA then advised we would be travelling from London Heathrow to Dallas and Dallas to Grand Junction, Colorado, with American Airlines (which we had no issue with) and the same on our return journey. On our return journey, our flight from Grand Junction to Dallas was delayed, which meant we missed our connecting flight from Dallas to Heathrow. Eventually, we arrived in Heathrow and, due to two delays, had also missed our connecting flight to Glasgow. We arrived home 12 hours after our anticipated time of arrival. When we complained to BA, they have refused to take any responsibility whatsoever as they say American Airlines are to blame. American Airlines also refuse as they say we booked through BA. Despite several e mails to BA, they refuse to budge. Do we have a case?
