But such charges are included with the Contract price that they pay - monthly cost covers billing and provision of Calls \ Texts & Data..

whereas on the PAYG, you Pay As You Go, with per minute \ text and data allowance \ charge structure.. With the Screen notification of what the balance is then at.. With a smartphone you could take a screenshot of this to track over time.. But really why someone wouldn't notice this reduction over time and query if there was a big change there and then??

What you are wanting is the convenience of PAYG, but the account infrastructure of a contract service, but that's not how they do it.

On which network? To my knowledge, pay-monthly customers always receive itemised bills free of charge, but reasonably have to pay a fee if they want the network to provide hard copies on paper.

Other networks (e.g. Orange UK) provide usage history on PAYG. Why is O2 deficient in comparison? Why should the timing of payments (prepaid vs postpaid) make any difference to itemisation? It defies common sense.

Are you suggesting to write down the figure every time you see it to be able to calculate the change later? The only purpose it serves is to tell you the remaining balance.

Is it unreasonable to want this? AFAIK all networks except O2 do this.
but that's not how [STRIKE]they[/STRIKE] O2 do it.
I made a small correction to make your point more clear.

It's hard paper statements I was reffering to, that is why I feel the £10 for 6 months hard copy statement is no big deal.

That's not very helpful, because phones don't log USSD messages received, unlike SMS. Given that the networks have the usage history available, it is unreasonable of them to hide this from customers.

It's not one message is isolation but after every call/text, I don't see how that is unhelpful. My opinion is that an average person would be aware that there balance was changing.

Anyway, the OP was objecting to paying for hard copies as proof and, to me, the SAR fee is likely to be less than the admin costs involved so I think it's acceptable.

I don't believe the OP wants a hard copy. Online usage history would suffice, as it does with other networks. It is reasonable to expect this as standard.
