I can't get a current account anywhere...

Back in 2010 I was unknowingly involved in fraud on my Barclays current account. What happened was that, I was 18 and applying for jobs on gumtree, and doing so I got a reply. They sent me an application form in which I filled in, with my bank details too. I didn’t know what I was doing, but did everything they asked thinking I was going to get a job. But little did I know it would be for a money mule position. The next day they sent just over £1000 in my account. Im sure you will have all the details on account. I was confused, and at the time they were harassing me, telling me to take the money out of my account which I did. The next day my account was blocked and since that day I haven’t been able to get a current account anywhere. That one stupid mistake has hindered me ever since. Im not a money mule or a fraudster, I was just a young naive teenage boy from Newcastle Upon tyne who got in to something not having one clue what it was. I understand it has been three years since the incident but the reason it has been so long is that I’ve only recently understood why this all happened. I would love for you to look at my recent current account with you and see if there is anything you can do, because this mistake has had such a big impact in my life. Is there anything I can do?

At least give an answer, as you have been watching your post for 20 minutes now.

Where else have you tried getting an account? Have you obtained copies of your credit reports? Was there any follow up repercussion from the event? What happened to the £1000?0

You are three years wiser so please answer this - which job gives you £1000 upfront?
Please tell us what happened to the £1000 - did they instruct you to send the money to another account - did you keep any of it?
Money mule is one thing - to anybody else its called money laundering being naïve 18 and coming from Newcastle (nil hopefully today lol) has no bearing on it.0 -

I may advance a small amount for a new employee, but certainly not as much as £1000. You're maybe looking at the £250 mark after a week, and the salary (minus £250) on first payday. Please tell us what happened to the £1000 - did they instruct you to send the money to another account - did you keep any of it?

This is going to be a very valid point, and one that OP needs to answer.
OP will have a CIFAS marker on his file.

CIFAS doesn't stay on for that long though does it?The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

I thought in the case of AML procedures, it was permanent (as opposed to protective registration).
James (Experian) may clarify, or anyone else please if they're aware, as I'd be interested to find out.

Actually you may be right thinking about it.
I don't deal directly with CIFAS in my job but I do have some knowledge of it, can't remember all the ins and outs right now.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

As an IB system, surely the process would be to protect all members from anyone that may cause an issue to this.
I'm not a lawyer, nor have I ever worked for a bank/financial services sector, but just thinking on a common sense level, this may (probably will be) the case.
Unfortunately, it is more poised to catch those in OP's position, and not those who are actually committing the crime, IIRC!💙💛 💔0
