Ah yes, missed that bit, thanks.
Well the police might take a report in that case. Depends on what force and how the cutbacks have strangled their admin department as to whether anything will happen.0 -

It will only be if the owner reports it that there is any chance of their premium rising.
As above.
Nothing has been stated about a note being left for the owner, so at present they will have no idea that the incident has been reported to the police, hence the only reason they will inform their insurers if if they notice any damage and then choose to inform them.
OP reports it to police, police contact the run away driver and the parked driver.
Now both drivers know about the accident and are obliged to report it to their insurers and get the resulting premium hike and all for an "accident" that caused no damage0 -
If it happened on private property then it's not a Police matter.
Wrong. Why do people come on theses boards and post such misinformation?
My car was damaged while my wife was shopping in a supermarket and the driver drove off without stopping. A witness left me a note, I reported it to the police, they interviewed the witness, the driver was interviewed, admitted the offence and received a caution. His insurance paid for everything. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
Report it to the driver and include the reg no. Even a small smack can end up costing a fortune. why do people think that they can get away with acting like this. All the woman had to do was either to wait and speak to the driver, apologising profusely, or leave her details.0

Spot on. As far as I'm concerned, she's no better. Where I live, there are lots of hit and runs on supermarket car parks. My dads car was hit on a supermarket car park doing £200 worth of damage. No note, no witness. Just a week after getting it fixed, at the same supermarket, he returned to find a large gouge down the bumper of his car where someone had either crashed their trolley into it... or their car. Both incidents were hit and run. Both incidents have ended up costing my dad money.
You have a moral obligation to tell the owner of the car and if they want to go via the police, you should provide a statement as evidence.
Unfortunately, there's a bit of ageism on this forum. It's against the youth rather than the older generation though!
Actually the drivers age doesn't seem to be a factor at all! Most have agreed that op should feel morally obligued to advise the car owner who pranged the car - but the police is a whole different matter. At least by notifying the owner then they can make their own judgement as to whether it is worth pursuing or not.0 -
Let's think about this differently.......
If there had been a toddler walking between the cars, she would have killed him/her.
People like this need to be reported and removed from the roads.......
We're far too tolerant of elderly drivers in this country.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

What does that have to do with the actual situation?0 -

What does that have to do with the actual situation?
The actual situation being whether to report this or not?
What if reporting it eventually leads to this driver handing in her car keys? or to her family taking some responsibility and doing it for her?
It could save a life.......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
