Should i report this?
Hi all. I was in a supermarket car park earlier and witnessed a car drive into a parked car. The offending car failed to stop so I flagged down the driver (an elderly lady) and she said she checked for damage on both hers and the other car but found none. I told her that she should leave her details but she made her excuses and left. I went to check the parked car (owner was shopping) but couldn't see any damage, to be fair. However it made a bit of a whack when she did it. I didn't have a pen or paper either unfortunately and waited round for a bit but they never turned up.
Should I report the elderly lady to the police for leaving scene of an accident? Report to the store manager/customer service people? Or leave it? I snapped her reg plate on my mobile. It's probably not damaged and may just need a bit of t-cut but I'd be !!!!ed if this happened to me.

Regrettably, the end answer has to be "do nothing". I wish the world was different.0

I'd make the police aware. They should then contact the supermarket and check the CCTV.0 -

This is the way I see it...
You witnessed someone bump a parked car and attempt to drive away without leaving their details. This is an obvious attempt to avoid the consequences. I would approach the police and make them aware. If I was the owner of the parked car, I'd be very grateful that someone has done the honorable and honest thing of reporting it to the police. The sooner you approach the police, the better.0 -

Totally agree, I would never wish to be part of the majority who simply turn the other way and do nothing.0 -

Given that an increasing number of insurers are now loading premiums for non fault accidents/incidents if I was the owner of the undamaged car I'd be less than happy for this non event to be made official and thus need disclosing to my insurer for the next three years0 -
I'm sorry... But yes. You have a moral obligation to report this. I witnessed an old man whack someone else's car on a council car park earlier this year. Despite checking both cars he quickly hopped back in and drove off leaving no details. The damage was quite extensive on the other vehicle. I left a note on the damaged vehicle and the owner phoned me and I provided the photos I took. Police were called and despite the old man refusing to respond, it was eventually sorted.0

I understand and respect your point of view. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree0 -
If you felt obliged to step in then you could have got a pen and paper from CS and left a note on the windscreen.
I'd be a little annoyed if it was my car and I had to now report it to insurance for information purposes because there is now a record on the police database.0 -
If it happened on private property then it's not a Police matter. Maybe give the information you have to the supermarketPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
