Meritaten, be careful with ibuprofen. It's part of the same group as asprin and advice about whether it's okay to take if you're allergic to asprin is mixed. My father reacted the same way to both. Might be worth a word with a pharmacist or your GP before taking it.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

I use the sticky heat patches when i ache, they work wonders. You are not supposed to sleep with them, but I have not had a problem.

I did this a couple of years ago Meritaten, the best thing I found was to make this nest in one of our spare beds and spent the night there.

And wearing a bra was the most painful thing, it went west, Im only glad it was winter lol, and I got my jumpers on.

Even now, 2 years later I have after effects, like a tight feeling where the ribs broke, I suppose that's normal though. When I first did it I got some relief from the pain during the day by kneeling on the floor and resting my arms and head on the bed, so stretching it a little. One time I actually slept like that for 2 hours lol, As soon as I stood up though, gravity kicked in. I took Paramol, but only for the worst 4 days, because it is addictive, so I know what you are going through.

And the sneezing, Oh God the sneezing was awful cos you just knew this massive pain was coming and no way you could stop it.

    Take care....
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Yes, I will be ultracareful with the Ibuprofen - I actually rubbed a tab against the inside of my elbow (patch test), and there is no reaction 10 hours later so far, so I will try a quarter of the dose. if that's ok I will increase slowly. honestly you are all so sympathetic and helpful! a big THANK YOU!

A couple of years ago I had back surgery where they had to break a couple of ribs.

The ONLY way I could get comfortable was with a memory foam pillow (I believe brought from Ikea) flat below my back and morphine ;)

It was a little awkward as I don't usually sleep on my back... but hey I got used to it.

I am in spare room tonight as grandgirls are sleeping over in the 'big bed'! made single bed up with the spare duvet and that bed has a memory foam mattress too.

Um - I don't wear a bra unless its a 'special occasion' - I hate them! and right now I couldn't wear one, even the cheap version of the Bravia bra I got from B&M (prefer it to the expensive one).

I am fairly comfortable sitting bolt upright - Like I am in a Jane Austin novel, lol.
yes sneezing and coughing is a no-no! so is laughing.

its amazing what a decent sleep will do - the pain level is the same but I feel so much more able to cope today! and taken my mind off things a few times by actually being AWAKE!

my OH has been itching to buy a new car - but this week I have been so poorly he hasn't even asked if I will go with him for a test drive in our chosen car.
We went today as I felt so much better - and tbh the pleasure he took in this little trip diverted me! and he was so concerned about me (he has had broken ribs himself and knows how it feels). It was also a very good test of the comfort of the new car! we weren't actually intending to buy today - but we were so impressed we did! OH was delighted!
We are having our brand new car a week Monday! OH cant wait!

Meri, I do feel for you as someone gave me a big hug a few years ago and 'popped' one of my costochondral joints (the cartilage between the ribs). I'm so glad to hear that you've managed to get some decent rest, but please, if the pain carries on for more than a few days longer, please go and see either your GP or a physio.
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

Go and see GP and ask for some stronger meds. I take Diazepam when my back is back and it works a treat. I also don't become addicted as I only take it for short stretches.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
