Don't forget you can take ibuprofen as well as paracetomol, so you an have the daily maximum dose of both. When I have had problems I have found sleeping on the settee better, it has a harder surface and less space to move so I couldn't acidently slip into a painful poition whilst sleeping. Hope you heal soon.

  • When my husband was ill with pleurisy last year, we rigged up a home made recliner, using a footstool and lots of pillows. If he lay down he couldn't breath.

Would something like that work until you can borrow a recliner?

Sit on the sofa facing forward, place feet in a comfy position on stool and stuff all gaps with pillows, the cover with a duvet.

I'd also be asking for some stronger pain killers. Just stick to using them of a night. I have co-dydramol to take of a night as sometimes I struggle to get comfortable because of back issues.

They're not super strong but they take the edge off enough to get comfortable.

Thanks all! some very good suggestions - for tonight I have taken all the duvets off the spare beds and folded them and put them on my half of the bed. roflmao. I am a foot above OH right now!
OH suggests I put a pillow under the duvets. and just one on top. will see how that goes.
I cant thank you all enough!
Rev - anything that starts 'co' has codeine in it - I am allergic to it. which even doctors don't seem to know! I cant tell you how many times I have told doctors I am allergic to codeine and aspirin only to be prescribed 'co-codamol'! duh!

I don't know if you've tried cuddling a pillow, and I don't know if it would help, but I found with my shoulder that just supporting the arm away from the body meant I could get comfy. And it might help you get wedged in.

back in August I had surgery on a shoulder, in a sling for 6 weeks and had to learn to sleep sitting up. Like you I tended to slip down then wake up when horizontal. I sort of fixed it by (a) having a couple of pillows lengthwise alongside me that I could rest the arm on, and (b) learning not to fidget. I refuse to take pills so really had to focus the mind, but got there after about a week. Good luck :-)

Maybe something like this, perhaps propped up by a couple of normal pillows, might help?

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1276675.htm

It has rather mixed reviews on the site.

However, I know that a similar pillow helped when one of my family members was in extreme pain.

I'm afraid it was too long ago to remember the exact pillow that she had, but it was a v-shaped one, and we got it from Argos!

I hope you feel better, and in a lot less pain, soon.
  • you cant use electric blankets on memory foam mattress so thats out..V -pillows are really comfy-depends what you have wrong--but are not very expensive so worth buying to try maybe,,,can use for reading when you are better if no good while you are sore! Some of the best pain killers I have found are from Aldi-- Pain Relief Plus -paracetamol+ caffeine. I find them better than all the stuff off the docs..good luck with it--must be horrible x
I might be crazy but I'm not stupid....
