So have you given your new employer your P45 yet? If you haven't or they haven't used it yet, then it probably is too early as HMRC haven't got your new employer's details as yet.

I assumed you had been paid once by your new employer.

No. This was my first week and only received it in post yesterday. Filled in a p46 on my first day.

HMRC should know about your pay and tax deducted before you do. You should not have filled in a P46 unless you didn't have a P45.
The only thing that is constant is change.

As the P45 is 944L Mth1/Wk1 handing in the P45 now won't make any difference to the tax code but it should contain the tax details ( assuming they are correct) so hand it in.

Once you have received your first pay, then phone HMRC.

I didn't have one when I started hence why I did the p46.

For some reason the p45 doesn't have my pay and tax to date info, which is why I think the job centre have screwed up.

Shall I still give it to my employer?

HMRC will sort it all out when they have all the details, one of which is your P45. HMRC will recive the P45 data from your new employer, your new employer will receive the P45 data from you, when you decide to give him his part. You have a copy to keep for your own records.
