windows 8 problem

I hate the way I touch keys and weird things happen
like second screen , I think the problem is me not the laptop. But this thing with the touchpad is seriously bugging me and nobody seems to understand it. Maybe it is a fault in the laptop, I didn't really think it was that, just thought it was me doing something.
Might phone John Lewis then . Thanks.
It might be worth going into Device Manager, right click on the Touchpad entry and select Properties ... then check for a driver update.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -
I would do that missile, but I'm a long way from the Edinburgh store where I bought it, and it cures itself if I switch it off and leave to sulk for half an hour. By time I got to the shop it would be fine and sit there sniggering at me.
Oblivion if I do that does it update itself ? Or do I have to do it? lol cos I don't know how!0 -
For the second time this bl**dy laptop has seized on me and the touchpad just stops working. I can move the cursor but when I click the touchpad nothing happens.
I know it's something I am doing but I cant see what it is!! I have to switch it off and leave it for half an hour then switch back on and it's ok. Any ideas??
I have a new Toshiba and this happened to me after a Windows update had come down the line automatically. I was a bit panicky but after switching off and on it was eventually ok and I haven't had the problem since. I have though had it stuck on configuring windows features which was a nightmare as it didn't come back on and just about thinking to pack it up and send it back when on it came.
I thought maybe some clash of something.
I deleted McAfee and have had no problems since - maybe coincidence.0 -

If you click on Update Driver it will automatically search the internet to see if there is a newer driver for your touchpad and install it ... if not, it will simply report that your driver is up to date.... Oh that's interesting Bettie, thank you so much! now I know it's not just me lol. I haven't got McAfee though, although I have got AVG.
Have you enabled Toshiba Health Monitor? I haven't done that as I wasn't sure about it.0 -
I assume that this is said in jest?
No one in their right mind would expect to get any sensible tech advice from DSG, even if they were foolish enough to buy it from from them. Toshiba tech support would be a better option.
OP, if you hate W8, then bung Classic Shell on it and it will look just like W7 (or Vista or XP if you must).
I was just trying to help? I have had a problem with my laptop before and PC World have their Know How team on hand to help. It was only a suggestion.
But yes I agree Toshiba tech support would be a better option, I didn't think of that.
I paid monthly for computer insurance through PC World and each time I had a problem they gave me advice or repaired it for me without any problems.0 -

I didn't know I had it until you mentioned it. I switched it on and everything is good. :T0 -
This is more of a Toshiba issue over windows. I had one of these running vista, then 7 and I often had crashes from the stupid touch pad. Buy yourself a mouse you won't look back. Try rolling back the driver in device manager, but don't hold your breath! If you know what you are doing, you can go into task manager and kill the synaptics process and restart it (run the exe from wherever it is on disk) that sometimes worked for me.
Plug in mouse is your best bet though.0 -
Ok, that's plan B... thanks every body!0

Why not just buy a mouse and be done with it. Touchpads are the spawn of satan imo.0
