Best protection for Android mobile phone and tablet.

Hello. Can anyone please advise me of any software that I can download to protect my mobile phone and tablet. Preferably free. :)

I have had a look but not being well up on this stuff I don't know good from bad.

I would welcome advice on what and how to download. Thank you for reading.

    Protection from what?

    I haven't installed any AV or similar product on my Nexus 4.

    Avast
    malwarebytes
    webroot and plenty more all free in the Play market.

    Due to certain factors one of which is app development and hacking i do run Avast principal for its firewall .
    I am yet to see any user who sticks to the legitimate app sites have any sort of viral problem .
    That is not so say their is no problem just that its mainly tied to illegal apps and China .

    Never used anything software based, when I did I got significant slow down, that was on my old HTC Desire though. I am sure apps have come a long way since then.

    However I would be more concerned with actual theft so get yourself Cerberus and install it in to the Rom if you are rooted, otherwise install it and then hide it from the app drawer.

    That's more of a "find your phone" thing than a "stop my phone getting nasties" thing.

    Prey protects the phone from not getting it back ....... so does answer the OP question. Don't you want the OP to download Prey???
