I've just looked out the window and there's a tortoise in my garden  I've knocked on a few neighbours' doors but nobody knows where it's from. I'm trying to get through to the RSPCA, anything else I should do?

Depends what the weather is like with you at the moment. I think I would be tempted to bring it inside and put in as big a box as you can find with some water and some green stuff until you can get through to the RSPCA.0

Thank you
The weather's just.. dull really. Light drizzle but nothing bad. I've got through to the RSPCA and they said they'll come round ASAP but seem quite busy. Do you think I should find it a box?0 -
Nevermind, they've been round and he's safe and sound now0

If you haven't already done so I'd be tempted to bring the little fella inside and put him in the biggest box you've got with a tub of water and maybe some dandelion leaves if you have any in your garden. That way he can't [strike]run[/strike] amble off before the RSPCA arrives.
Doh! Cross posted with you. Glad to know he's safe.
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

ooh this has given me the heebejeebies- might have to ring my mum to check its not our tortoise! thats how we got him 25 years ago, by finding him... not in marton village are you? don't think its quite that small a world somehow lol0

You've done the right thing. Most responsible owners have them microchipped now aswell as there being some sort of marking on the shell, so hopefully they will be able to trace it's owner. Pleased you didn't just hand him over to anyone as some require licences aswell.
Meeps, if your Mum has one get her to take a photo of the underside of the shell incase it's ever lost. They are VERY different on every tortoise and can help people prove ownership etc if they ever go missing, and of course microchipping if you haven't already. One day I might be more organised...........
