    I just had a turbo back exhaust fitted to my Ibiza TDI FR. The cat was removed at the same time, but no mention of that thankfully in the proposed regulation changes.

    I can see a business idea looming. DPF hire.
    Got your MOT coming-up?. Had your DPF removed?. Fear not. Just pop in & we will hire you a DPF for just £50 (plus £150 refundable deposit) we will swap out your 'modified' DPF for the MOT, then swap it back after.

    Think it won't work?. Well, there are a few such facilities over in the USA that do just that.

    As for blanking-off the EGR, some companies such as Renault tend to stop supplying replacement EGRs within a couple of years of stopping manufacturing of an engine. If the EGR fails, they fit a factory-supplied blanking kit so the MOT needs to take this into account.

    They're trying to make the MOT, mirror Euro regulations and laws regarding vehicles. I think it will be more a case of manufacturers will have to take this into account.

    There would be no easy way of detecting a blanked off EGR though if all the parts are present and a blanking plate is used.
    It's only when it's removed, it becomes more obvious.

    I like DPFs because I hate greasy soot stains all over the back of the car. The tailpipes of my car are still gleaming clean stainless steel internally and the exhaust hasn't got a hint of that horrible bus like diesel stench of non-DPF cars.

    I see a lot of Diesel cars like that, not all as appears in some cases (not saying yours is like this), those nice gleaming outlets are blanked off and just for styling, the black as usual exhaust exits underneath just before the shiny bits.

    Nope, the exhaust definitely comes out the tailpipes, it smells a bit like the exhaust from a gas central heating boiler, not like a diesel at all. Which is nice.

    i presume this will invalidate your insurance if the dpf is removed as its technically not legal , you also need to have your ecu reprogrammed something you must inform your insures of i presume as its a modification

    Indeed nice, the most foul smelling Diesels i've followed have been Rovers from the 90's but they weren't alone, stank something awful, literally would induce me to throw up, worse than battered old 2 million mile lorries and buses.

    The worse for black smoke were Mk3 Mondeos under power, horrible horrible overrated cars (all or nothing power delivery), seen clumps of soot falling from the exhaust of those leaving scattered patches spread up the road.

    It's considered a modification and the ECU usually needs to be mapped to ignore the DPF sensor, but as long as the insurance are aware of these mods, it won't be invalid.

    If you have a bulb out and get into a crash, the car isn't road legal but the insurance will still pay out.
