I have been with the R.B.S. for the last 5 years and to be honest i can't fault them, as for the service they provide i think it is second to none.
Over the years i have banked with Barclays and the Abbey and to be honest the R.B.S. beats them hands down....

The Royal Bank of Scotland have picked the last bone with me.
The real annoyance has come with the latest !!!!-up. I have 2 cheque books in my possession and (unknown to me) they cancelled one of them because they said I told them I hadn’t received it. Fair enough…..BUT I have written 4 cheques from this book over the last 2 weeks.

When you tell the bank you have'nt received a cheque book you are effectively telling them to put a stop on it(what else would you expect them to do?) When you found the cheque book you should have phoned the bank and the stop would have been removed. I'm sure this is not what you want to hear but you really should not bad mouth people when you are clearly in the wrong.

You've obviously not read my post properly.

I said I was unaware of the cancelled cheque book....... BUT regardless of that, they kept receiving requests to cash cheques that were cancelled, surely their security measures would kick in at some point and they'd tell me?

When my credit card was stolen, I cancelled it. When someone tried to use it, the CC establishment told me straight away.

Even forums such as this one inform the user when numerous failed login attempts occur......and there's not even any money involved in it!!

It isn't a specific bank that is bad, it can be certain branches, certain call centres, in exotic locations, certain people in the branch, numerous factors, including bad customers.

    IMO

Not another one! Read post again.

I was going to post a reply like jancee's, but I had the feeling that the OP didnt want to hear this. The post sounded like an 'agree with me that they are rubbish'.

    and your problem with that?

If you get the staff on your side it is amazing what they will do to help you out! I often rail against the banks myself, but it is no good cutting off your nose to spite your face.

how is that? I can simply open another bank account. Their loss, not mine.
Also, MBNA could have been persuaded to ignore the missed payment if it was for good reason and the first time this had happened. They could certainly waive the fees, if not restore the 0%. What was your approach here?

To be fair, it was really nothing to do with MBNA. They have cancelled one of the charges as a courtesy. I spoked to them politely as I do all staff. However, I've lost the 0% promotion.

The main point the thread was intended to make was that RBS seem amateurish in their approach. Girl shouting questions overt he counter, numerous cancelled cheques trying to be cashed without informing user.

The cheque issue alone is a failing in their security.

Would you associate these actions with a major high street bank?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Yes!!! I have been with the same bank for 17 years and although they have made some major screw ups on my account, I always nail them for compensation, so I've made quite a few quid out of them, like hundreds. I don't let them of with anything, complain loudly to the head brass about the slipshod service and make some bucks out of the Bstds. Mentioning the Financial Ombudsman if you don't get a satisfactory closure on the complaint, i.e £££ helps too. Touch wood, I haven't had any problems with my accounts for quite some time, so haven't had any compensation for while. ;)

Not another one! Read post again.

so where do you deny it? you say they told you that you hadnt received it then the words "fair enough" clearly appear.

fair enough what? to me that says "yeah thats what i did but i forgot until they said it.

    why else say 'fair enough'???

well from your post the ONLY thing they did wrong was not offer a private room to open the account. thats why theres a "problem" with your 'lets all gang up on the RBS post tone'

so why mention MBNA and give them, in your own words a
    kind 2 fingered gesture too

    ??

numerous cancelled cheques trying to be cashed without informing user.

put yourself in RBS's shoes. 'numerous' cheques tried to be cashed by the very person who cancelled them. whos the clown?

'fair enough' means that it isn't the end of the world (assuming the bank has any security measures).

read my lips > I didn't remember cancelling the cheque book. Why would I cancel a cheque book that is in my possession?

You are the THIRD person to attack my post having not read it properly and you infer I'm the clown?

    Assume you are the bank

    Here's a scenario.........

Someone 'cancels' a credit card then some while after starts using it.

It doesn't take sherlock holmes to figure out what might be going on.

    There are only 2 conclusions

    a) the user has forgotten he's cancelled it
    b) it's been stolen and someone else is using it

course of action by you > sit back and do nothing allowing £000's of pounds to disappear? It seems so

Don't ever work in a bank, you don't understand the concept of security.
  • i did read your post properly.

the point im trying to make is why didnt you notice that after cheque 1 had not been cashed that something was wrong. yes i agree RBS should have contacted you, but you have a responsibility to be checking your account regularly to see everything is ok.

you should know which cheq book is the valid one on your account.

better not let my employers see that one

they were written in quick succession (a few days). Then, all the bad news came at once.
