I have no idea about tablets and have been tasked with buying one for my son.
I have a budget of 150 max and saw this one in currys which seems to have good reviews.
What do others think of this tablet, or can recommend a better one for watching videos, childrens catch-up TV, things saved on an SD card for long car journeys, and to play games.
Thanks

processor wise its a 1.2 ghz quad core so 4.8ghz faster than most of the laptops! so for that money i don't think you will be able to find any that can compete with it
there are other big brands in the market such as samsung you can get for same/similar price but they will only be a dual core
have you checked amazon? link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_9/275-0145922-3006579?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=quadcore%20tablet&sprefix=quadcore+%2Caps%2C209&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aquadcore%20tablet
there are some cheaper ones there make sure you click specification and make sure its actually better than the one above
also is 7" big enough?
forgot to mention if you are ordering online dont forget topcashback!0 -

Please ignore this post, you can't compare GHZ of processors any more between same devices, let alone a tablet to a laptop! And 1.2 does not equal 4.8!!!
The memo pad is pretty decent, not much in it between this and the original nexus 7 (nexus slightly faster CPU). Just a point (but late now) if you have bought it on Wednesday you could have claimed £10 back, and used code ITAB5 to make it £113. Still not a bad price now, it was just better a couple of days ago.0 -
Wrong! Absolutely jaydeeuk1 - four cars travelling at 70mph doesn't equal one travelling at 280mph! But they will carry more passengers than one car. That might be a terrible analogy...processor wise its a 1.2 ghz quad core so 4.8ghz faster than most of the laptops!
Anyway this is a great little tablet - just think of it as last year's Nexus 7 (which Asus also made) for half the price of this year's.
Just watch out everyone looking for one, some stores are selling the older, far worse one, for around the same price. Don't buy. Screen resolution is a good tell tale sign.0 -
To be fair to tasticz ... only the first line of that post was bonkers. the rest of the post was actually quite reasonable.

thanks everyone for the input and the links. I did actually look at the nexus 7 but (rightly or wrongly) i thought the one i mentioned was better as it came with a mini sd card slot whereas the nexus one didnt, and it was cheaper.
Havent bought it yet but will, and was going to use Quidco and currys as does a decent amount of cashback on tablets.0 -
if you can get one the tesco hudl is a decent buy, i just got one and am well pleased with it0

I hate it when people ask for advice and then never finish the conversation.
So, thanks for the assistance. Bought the Asus, and winging its way to me as I type.0 -
2013 Nexus 7 is in a different league from the MemoPad, and Hudl - primarily processor and screen wise. Maybe you don't need the improvements though...0

Nexus 7 2013 model. The MemoPad is somewhat akin to the Nexus 7 2012 model.
